Lady Raiders Fall at Tulsa, 4-3

TULSA, Okla. – The Texas Tech women's tennis team came up just short on Wednesday afternoon, falling at Tulsa, 4-3, at the Case Tennis Center.

The Lady Raiders opened the match trailing, 1-0, after the Golden Hurricane took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Nell Miller and Margarita Skriabina grabbed the lone Texas Tech doubles win with a 6-1 victory over Shura Poppe and Valeriya Rozenkova on court two.

In singles, Miller evened the match score at one apiece as she handled Rozenkova, 6-1, 6-3, on court four. It pushed the sophomore's dual singles record to 10-3 on the year and was her fifth-straight win.

After the Golden Hurricane regained the lead with win on court two, Skriabina answered back with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Shura Poppe to tie the match back up at two-all. The Lady Raider freshman stayed red hot, winning her 12th dual singles match in as many attempts.

Tulsa would answer back on court one, as Lisa Mays fell short to No. 81 Martina Okalova; however, Tech once again answered back with a big victory from Olivia Peet who snagged a three-set win over Vera Ploner on line five. Peet defeated Ploner, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, to move to 9-2 overall on the year.

With Peet's win, the match came down to court six, where Lady Raider Bojana Marinkov had just forced a third set in her match against Lian Benedejcic. Marinkov and Benedejcic traded games before Marinkov eventually went up a break, 4-2; however, it wouldn't be enough as Benedejcic came back to seal the 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 victory to clinch the match.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Friday against Oklahoma State at 5 p.m.
