
Lady Raiders Wrap Regular Season with Pair of Top-10 Opponents

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team looks to wrap up the regular season on a high note this weekend as it hosts No. 2 Texas and No. 10 Baylor at the McLeod Tennis Center.

BIG 12 IMPLICATIONS
The Big 12 regular season championship could be decided in Lubbock this weekend as each of the top-three seeds will be competing at the McLeod Tennis Center. The Lady Raiders are 6-1 in Big 12 play this season, only half a match behind the Bears (7-1) for the second spot in the Big 12 standings. Tech will open the weekend with a matchup against the first-place Longhorns, who are 7-0 in conference play thus far. The Lady Raiders can finish no lower than a tie for third.

Both matches this weekend will be part of doubleheaders with the Texas Tech men's tennis team, with the Red Raiders set to play TCU on Friday at 5 p.m., and Texas on Sunday at 11 a.m. Fans in attendance will be entered to win a Texas Tech fan pack, and complimentary Whataburger will be provided in between matches.

The Lady Raiders enter this weekend's matches at 15-5 overall on the season and 6-1 in Big 12 play. Winners of four-straight matches, Texas Tech is a perfect 7-0 at home so far this season and will look to continue both streaks this weekend.

Coming off a pair of hard-fought matches in the Metroplex last weekend, the Lady Raiders snagged a 4-2 win at SMU and a 4-3 victory in a nonconference matchup at TCU. Texas Tech is ranked as high as No. 28 in the latest ITA team rankings. Individually, Margarita Skriabina (No. 76) and Kaitlin Staines (No. 108) represent the Lady Raiders in the ITA singles rankings, while Staines and Lisa Mays come in at No. 81 in the ITA doubles rankings.

EYEING THE OPPONENTS
The second-ranked Texas Longhorns come to Lubbock at 20-1 overall this season and 7-0 in Big 12 play. The Longhorns' lone loss of the season came in a 4-3 battle with No. 1 North Carolina at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February. Texas is led by Anna Turati, who is ranked No. 25 in singles with a 16-3 record this season. The Longhorn roster also boasts No. 31 Peyton Stearns, No. 62 Kylie Collins, No. 72 Lulu Sun and No. 77 Charlotte Chavatipon. Collins and Sun are ranked No. 14 in doubles as well.

Baylor is 20-3 overall this season with a 7-1 mark in Big 12 play after a 5-2 win at TCU in Fort Worth on Wednesday. The Bears' only Big 12 loss of the season came at the hands of the Longhorns. Ranked as high as No. 10 nationally as a team, Baylor is led by No. 64 Mel Krywoj and No. 96 Livia Kraus in singles. Krywoj and Angelina Shakhraichuk are ranked 28th in doubles as well.

After this weekend's matches, the Lady Raiders will turn their attention to postseason play as the team will head to Waco for the Big 12 Championships, which are set to begin Thursday.
