Lady Raiders Fall to Iowa State in Big 12 Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team fell to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals on Friday morning.
The match, originally scheduled for noon on Friday, was moved to 10 a.m. and indoors due to inclement weather.
After Iowa State took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, the Cyclones expanded their lead to 3-0 after Lady Raider Kaitlin Staines fell to Maty Cancini on court two and Olivia Peet was defeated by Sofia Cabezas on court five.
Metka Komac got the Lady Raiders on the board with a straight-set win on court six. Komac defeated Ting-Pei Chang, 6-3, 6-2, to pull the score to 3-1. With the win, Komac moved to 10-5 in dual matches this season.
The Cyclones would respond, however, as they clinched the match with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Lady Raider sophomore Nell Miller on court four.
As the match was clinched, Lisa Mays had forced a big third set on court one and Margarita Skriabina was in a tight second set trying to force a third on court three.
The Lady Raiders now wait for the NCAA Tournament selection show, set for Monday, May 3. Texas Tech will be looking to make its ninth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
