No. 11 Tech Baseball Hosts New Mexico Wednesday

First pitch between Red Raiders and Lobos is set for 12 p.m. at Rip Griffin Park
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 11 Texas Tech baseball looks to bounce back and close the month of April strong as it welcomes New Mexico to Lubbock for a midweek contest on Wednesday at 12 p.m., inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Texas Tech announced on Tuesday that the game, originally scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., would move up to the noon start due to the threat of thunderstorms Wednesday night. Coverage will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ along with over the radio via the Texas Tech Sports Network.

The Red Raiders (27-10 Overall; 8-7 Big 12) enter the week looking to rebound after dropping 2-of-3 to Baylor at home over the weekend. It marked the first series loss for Tech at home since 2018.

New Mexico (9-16 Overall; 6-9 Mountain West) heads to Lubbock after losing 2-of-3 at Washington over the weekend. The Lobos, playing for the first time since April 3, played three tight games against the Huskies in Seattle, dropping a pair of one-run games sandwiched around a 5-3 win in 12 innings on Saturday.

Tech students receive free admission with the swipe of their TTU student ID. Backpacks are permitted and will be checked and tag at the entrance.

Texas Tech will hand the ball to freshman right-hander Brendan Girton (1-0, 5.63 ERA) while New Mexico will go with senior right-hander Nathaniel Garley (0-1, 4.41 ERA).

Wednesday's contest will be the 123rd all-time meeting on the diamond between Texas Tech and New Mexico. The Red Raiders hold a 75-47-1 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1962. It is the most-played series for Tech against any school that has never been a part of the Big 12 Conference. Under Tadlock, Tech holds a 13-7 mark against New Mexico, including wins in 10 of the last 13 games. The Red Raiders are 47-20 at home against UNM, including six straight victories.

Tech has gotten off to a strong start in midweek play this year with a 6-0 record. The Red Raiders are 75-33 in midweek games under Tim Tadlock and have been victorious in 19 of their last 25 midweek games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. Tech enters the weekend having won 26 consecutive home games against teams outside of the Big 12 with its last loss coming to UTRGV in 2019.
