Lady Raider Tennis Hits the Road to Face SMU, TCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team embarks on its final road trip of the regular season this weekend as it travels to face No. 48 SMU and No. 50 TCU. The match against the Horned Frogs will be counted as a nonconference match.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Tech heads into the weekend with a 13-5 overall record and 6-1 in Big 12 play. Winners of two straight, the Lady Raiders look to wrap up a seven-match road trip strong when they travel to face SMU and TCU this weekend. Tech is coming off two huge Big 12 wins last week in which they knocked off both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, 4-3, for its first sweep of the Oklahoma schools since 2018.

Tech is led by a strong singles lineup, headed by Lisa Mays who is 10-5 in dual matches this year and 9-5 in the No. 1 position with a pair of ranked wins on the year. Margarita Skriabina remains red hot, coming into the weekend at 17-1 overall in singles and 15-0 in dual singles matches, competing primarily at the No. 3 spot. Olivia Peet has won four in a row at the No. 5 line, while Nell Miller is 9-2 holding down the No. 4 singles spot. Last week, Metka Komac came up clutch in clinching both wins over the Cowgirls and Sooners on court six, with both victories coming in three sets.

Mays and Kaitlin Staines have been solid leading the Lady Raider doubles lineup, boasting an 8-4 record this season with two ranked wins. Miller and Skriabina have occupied the No. 2 doubles court for a majority season and have compiled a 6-3 record in those matches.

IN THE ITA RANKINGS
In the latest ITA team rankings, Texas Tech comes in at No. 29 in the latest computer rankings, while being slotted at No. 30 in the coaches poll.

Individually, Skriabina leads the Lady Raiders in the singles rankings coming in at No. 58, with Staines at No. 124. Staines and Mays are ranked No. 32 in doubles.

EYEING THE OPPONENTS
The SMU Mustangs enter Thursday's matchup with the Lady Raiders at 17-8 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Tech got the best of SMU in the previous meeting this season, with the Lady Raiders sweeping the Mustangs, 4-0; however, the upcoming match will present a different challenge for Tech, as SMU is 14-1 in home matches this season. The Mustangs are winners of two straight, coming off victories over No. 50 TCU and No. 49 Tulsa last weekend. In the rankings, SMU's Hadley Doyle and Jackie Nylander are slotted at No. 46 in doubles, with Nylander ranked No. 90 in singles. The Mustangs are ranked No. 48 in the computer rankings and are tied for No. 50 in the coaches poll.

TCU heads into the weekend at 9-9 overall with a 3-4 record in Big 12 play. Tech took the conference meeting between the two teams, 6-1, in Lubbock back in February. The Horned Frogs are looking to break a four-match skid with losses to Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and SMU. TCU has three players ranked in singles by the ITA in No. 60 Alisa Soloveva, No. 82 Mercedes Aristegui and No. 103 Marie Norris.
