Red Raiders fell two shots short of advancing Wednesday, finishing tied for eighth overall in Louisville

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team's season came to an end Wednesday as the Red Raiders wrapped the NCAA Louisville Regional in a tie for eighth place following a 4-over-par 292 final round at the University of Louisville Golf Club.

The Red Raiders missed the cut to be among the top-six advancing schools, finishing 17-over for the tournament, only two strokes back of both Arkansas and South Carolina in sixth place. The top-ranked Gamecocks topped the Razorbacks for the final spot at the NCAA Championships in a playoff.

"We had a chance today," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We knew that we had to play well, and we did play well but just came up short. I'm proud of our team and everything that they have accomplished this year."

Florida State held on to win the regional, finishing three-strokes ahead of both Texas and UCLA in second place. Auburn and Michigan State rounded out the list of advancing teams at 14-over for the tournament and in a tie for fourth place.

Tech appeared to be in position to make a run early in the round as Gala Dumez and Sofia Garcia both birdied three of their first five holes. The birdies dried up from there, though, as Tech sank six as a team the rest of the way with three coming at the par-5 9th.

Garcia and Dumez provided the two low scores to pace the Red Raiders, signing for even-par 72 rounds each. Amy Taylor followed at 1-over, pushing her into a tie with Gomez on the individual leaderboard at 3-over for the tournament and 19th place overall.

For Garcia, it was her lowest round of the tournament as she finished in a tie for 45th individually. Garcia closed the season averaging 72.5 strokes per round, which ranks sixth all-time on the Tech single-season chart. Garcia now owns three of the top-six season marks in program history.

Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen completed Tech's round with 3-over and 6-over cards, respectively. The performance dropped Nielsen into a tie for 34th overall at 7-over for the tournament, while Dong was a few spots back in a tie for 51st at 10-over.

The NCAA Regional appearance marked the 10th for the Red Raiders now in 12 seasons under head coach JoJo Robertson. Tech has been selected for the postseason in each of the past six seasons where NCAA Regionals have been conducted.
