
Texas Tech Softball Lands Record 13 on Academic All-Big 12

Ten Red Raiders earned first team honors while three landed on second team.
IRVING, Texas – A program record 13 Texas Tech softball student-athletes earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the 2021 season, the Big 12 Conference announced Thursday afternoon.
Ten Red Raiders garnered first team distinction while three more earned second team honors. Seniors Heaven Burton, Erin Edmoundson, Karli Hamilton, Breanna Russell, Maddie Westmoreland and Missy Zoch collected first team honors while Kelcy Leach picked up a second team nod.
Juniors Peyton Blythe and Zoe Jones etched their name on the first team list while Morgan Hornback and Yvonne Whaley rounded out the second team selections.
A couple of sophomores – Alanna Barraza and Kamryn Caldwell earned first team honors for the first time in their careers. Caldwell was the lone Red Raider to record a perfect 4.00 GPA.
First team honorees consist of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 GPA or higher and participated in at least 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Second team members hold between a 3.00 and 3.19 GPA with 20 percent participation. Freshmen and transfer student-athletes are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
