The Red Raiders face UAB, Tulane and Sam Houston at the Green Wave Invitational Sept. 17-18 in Birmingham
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball hits the road for its final non-conference matches of the season when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Green Wave Invitational. The Red Raiders will face UAB, Tulane and Sam Houston State in the tournament slated for Sept. 17-18 at Bartow Arena.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
The tournament is free to attend. Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 and updated CDC guidance, UAB will require face masks indoors on campus – regardless of vaccine status – effective Thursday, July 29. Individuals can briefly unmask while eating or drinking.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Senior middle blocker Brooke Kanas is starting to heat up for the Red Raiders. She ranks first in the Big 12 and seventh in the NCAA in hitting % (.481) and picked up All-Tournament Team honors at the Buffs Invitational last weekend. Kanas tallied 34 kills, 14 blocks and 44.5 points on a .615 hitting clip in 10 sets last week. She leads the team in hitting percentage and blocks (32.0) and is second in points per set (3.16).
- The Red Raiders finished the Buffs Invitational with a 2-1 record picking up wins over previously unbeaten Northern Colorado and San Jose State while falling in four sets to Colorado. Kanas and Karrington Jones picked up All-Tournament Team honors. Tech hit .310 as a team on the weekend with 32 blocks averaging 3.2 per set.
- Texas Tech has tallied 95.5 blocks averaging 2.81 per set so far this season which ranks 20th in the nation. Tech has tallied six matches of 10+ blocks so far this season which already matches their total from 2020. Kanas leads the team with 32 blocks followed by Caitlin Dugan with 23 and Jones with 20. In total, eight Red Raiders have double-digit blocks on the season.
- The Red Raiders open the Green Wave Invitational against UAB for the fourth meeting in program history and the first since 1993. Tech has won all three of the previous meetings against the Blazers.
- Texas Tech and Tulane battle for the first time since 1994 when they square off Friday in the fourth ever meeting between the two programs. The Red Raiders are 3-0 against the Green Wave.
- Tech closes out the tournament with Sam Houston in the 11th overall meeting with the Bearkats and the first since 2003. Tech holds an 8-2 advantage in previous meetings against Sam Houston.
