Texas Tech dropped into seventh place to close the Mercedes-Benz Invitational on Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Amy Taylor recorded her highest-career finish Tuesday, ending in a tie for fourth place to lead Texas Tech on the final day of the Mercedes-Benz Invitational held at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
Â
Taylor played well over all three rounds to record the fifth top-10 finish of her career and her second time in the top five. Her previous best finish came at the 2019 Valspar Augusta Invitational where she wrapped the event in a tie for fifth overall.
Â
Taylor utilized three key birdies on the back nine Tuesday for a 1-over 72 round that pushed her to 1-under for the tournament. Anna Dong also finished inside the top 20, tying for 16th place after shooting 3-over for the tournament. Dong was 3-over for the final round, two back of Tech's low cards, which came from both Taylor and freshman Chiara Horder.
Â
As a team, the Red Raiders could not repeat their performance from Monday as Tech fell from third place to start the day to seventh by the end of the round. The Red Raiders combined for a 10-over 294 over the final 18 holes, moving to 16-over for the tournament.
Â
BYU took home the team title after finishing 2-over for the tournament following a 1-under 283 final round. The Cougars outlasted second place Miami by three strokes, while UTSA, Chattanooga and Augusta all finished tied for third at 12-over, two in front of host Tennessee in sixth.
Â
Tech will return to the road again in two weeks to participate in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational hosted by Arkansas. The three-day event will begin Oct. 3 and will take place at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville.
