Soccer Recap: Texas Tech Falls to Baylor, 3-2
September 30, 2021 | Women's Soccer
It's the first loss to Baylor since 2018
"It was a game of momentum changes for sure. We equalized after going down against the run of play, then we score again to go up 2-1 and were quite comfortable for a bit," said head coach Tom Stone. "However, momentum changed again when Baylor simply went direct to create enough chaos to turn the game back in their favor. On the game-winner, Madi had it covered, but when the ball hit the crossbar, it hit us and went in for the own-goal game-winner. Tough one to take in that moment."
Â
Baylor jumped on the board in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead – the earliest goal conceded by the Red Raiders this season. Just before the half, Kirsten Davis found the equalizer in the 39th minute. Davis intercepted the ball from her defender inside the 18-yard box and slotted home her 11th goal of the season, maneuvering around the keeper for the strike. The score moved her into sole possession of second place on TTU's all-time goals scored list (42).Â

"KD gave a tremendous effort to get on the back pass and showed great composure to get past the keeper and finish it to equalize," said Stone.Â
In the second half, Charlotte Teeter gave TTU the 2-1 lead with her second goal of the season in the 57th minute. Tech was awarded a penalty kick as Teeter's initial shot was denied, but she followed up the rebound for the finish.Â

"Teeter is great for us from the spot. However, the keeper moved early and made the initial save but Char jumped on the rebound to put us up 2-1," said Stone.Â
From here, Baylor knotted up the contest with a goal in the 62nd minute before taking the lead in the 79th minute.Â
"KD was outstanding in her press and on the ball for us. Her goal was pure effort with a bit of class on the final touch. Char was everywhere in the midfield and scored the go ahead goal - this kid has zero quit in her and was a warrior for us tonight," said Stone.
Â
The Bears won the shot battle, 19-12 as TTU rifled nine on goal. Davis led the way with five shots with three coming on frame. Keeper Madison White secured three saves in the losing effort.Â
"Madi made several good saves and the one she pulled out of the upper corner was incredible - not many college keepers even get a finger on that and Madi pushed it wide with her whole hand," said Stone.Â
"In the end, Baylor deserve credit for changing the game back in their favor and putting away their chances after we got the lead. Now we need to take what we mist from this performance and be ready to go in Austin Sunday."
