Obanor, Aimaq earn preseason Big 12 recognition

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech seniors Kevin Obanor and Fardaws Aimaq have been named All-Big 12 Preseason Honorable Mention selections. The conference announced the 2022-23 preseason awards on Wednesday following votes from the league's head coaches and will release the Big 12 Preseason Poll on Thursday.
Obanor returns for his second season in Lubbock after posting 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, while Aimaq is in his first season at Tech after playing at Utah Valley University the past two seasons. Obanor recorded three double-doubles in the NCAA Tournament last season and led the Red Raiders with 48 3-pointers. A starter in all 37 games last season, Obanor was a 2022 Big 12 Honorable Mention selection. Aimaq has 41 career double-doubles after posting 27 more last season. He was the 2021 WAC Player of the Year and the WAC Defensive Player of the Year the past two seasons.
Tech has 20 Preseason All-Big 12 selections in program history after Obanor and Aimaq's selections.
TCU's Mike Miles Jr. was named the 2022-23 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, while Oklahoma's Grant Sherfield was named the Preseason Newcomer of the Year. Keyonte George is the second consecutive Baylor player named Preseason Freshman of the Year.
