
Tech suffers loss to Cyclones

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders (14-7, 3-5 Big 12) fell to the Iowa State Cyclones in three sets, 23-25, 20-25, 25-15, at the United Supermarkets Arena on Friday night.
Four Red Raiders had a defensive night as Maddie Correa led the team with 15 digs, followed by Caitlin Dugan with nine and Kenna Sauer with seven.
Brooke Kanas held her own at the net with four blocks in the match. She also tallied five kills on 13 attacks for a .231 hitting clip. The Red Raiders posted nine blocks as a team with Dugan and Maddie O'Brien collecting three apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One
The Red Raiders and the Cyclones battled for the lead trading points early in the set. With Iowa State leading 11-9, it looked like the Cyclones were pulling away but the Red Raiders rallied behind kills from O'Brien and Dugan to give the Red Raiders some momentum at 13-10. The Red Raiders chipped away at the lead as the set progressed eventually tying it at 20-20. Kanas kept the Red Raiders in the set by slamming down two kills, but eventually, the Cyclones took the set with a score of 25-23.
Set Two
The Red Raiders got off to a slow start giving the Cyclones 2-0 advantage. The Red Raiders battled and took the lead under two kills from Sauer and blocks from Dugan and Reagan Cooper. The Cyclones would battle back and eventually even the score at 13-13. The teams would trade points until the Cyclones took the lead at 20-17. The Red Raiders started to rally under some Cyclone errors, but eventually fell in the second set, 25-20.
Set Three
The Red Raiders and Iowa State opened the set by trading points until Iowa took the lead at 7-5. The Cyclones were able to keep the lead for the remainder of the set as they would edge out Texas Tech with 25-15 win.

The Red Raiders will be on the road next week with a Wednesday match-up against No. 1 Texas in Austin.
