The women’s 60m school record stood for seven years
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team concluded day one of the Texas Tech Shootout Friday evening. Rosemary Chukwuma broke the women's 60m record as Demisha Roswell set a new mark in the 60m hurdles.
Meanwhile, Moad Zahafi clocked in a time of 1:46.29 in his first 800m indoor race to sit atop the NCAA leaderboard by the end of the night.
"It was a good night for both the men and women," said head coach Wes Kittley. "I'm very proud of the 800m group – it's pretty special to have four guys run that fast. Also, [Chukwuma] was fantastic breaking the school record and so was Demisha. It was a good first day overall!"
In the prelims of the 60m, Chukwuma broke Cierra White's 2015 record of 7.22 with a mark of 7.21. In the finals, the Nigeria native would run a 7.20 to solidify her evening. With the 0.2 altitude conversion to be added later, as of now, that time is ninth in the NCAA. In the 60m hurdles, Roswell registered a qualifying-best time of 8.07 before breaking the Tech record in the finals, crossing the end line at 8.00. She tied the school record earlier in the year (Red Raider Open, 1/21/2022). Following tonight, it will be tied for sixth in the NCAA.
In the weight throw, Gabe Oladipo placed first for the second time this season in that event with a toss of 21.51m (71'-7"). Meanwhile, Seasons Usual matched her season-best mark of 21.47m (70'-5.25") to finish second.
The final day of the Texas Tech Shootout concludes tomorrow as the day kicks off at 10 a.m., beginning with the women's shot put.
