CLEARWATER, Fla. – Texas Tech softball (3-7) wrapped up the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational dropping a 2-0 contest against No. 21 LSU (6-4) Sunday morning.
The Tigers outhit the Red Raiders 7-3 while both teams recorded two errors. Georgia Clark and Hayden Brown recorded LSU's two RBI in the game, scoring Ciara Briggs and McKenzie Redoutey.
Tech looked to get on the board in the top of the second putting runners on the corners with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning with no runs crossing.
LSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers led off the inning with back-to-back singles but were thrown out at third on an attempted double steal. The Tigers successfully stole third on the next at bat, setting up a sac fly to center that drove in the run.
The Tigers added another run in the fourth to make it 2-0. A one out double snuck just over the first base bag to put LSU in scoring position and a pinch-hit single to center field scored the runner.
The Red Raiders kept it a two-run game heading into the seventh inning, looking for a couple of runs to extend the game. Molly Grumbo struck the ball hard to center field and was robbed of a home run by the LSU center fielder who reached over the fence for the second out of the inning. A Peyton Blythe double on the next at bat kept the inning alive momentarily, but a strikeout left her stranded on second to end the game.
