Vascianna named Most Outstanding Freshman

Vascianna placed first in both the 60m hurdles prelims and finals at the Big 12 meet
IRVING, Texas – Vashaun Vascianna was named the Big 12's Male Most Outstanding Freshman Wednesday afternoon. He is the fourth Red Raider to win such honor – Bryce Lamb (2010), Kyal Meyers (2011) and Divine Oduduru (2018).
Vascianna bolted onto the scene at the New Mexico Classic, where he made his Red Raider debut after battling an injury for the first month of the season. In his first prelim run, the Jamaica native registered his season-best time of 7.64 (7.66 on TFFS with altitude), automatically jumping into the top 10 of the NCAA 60m hurdles list. He would go on to claim first in the finals with a time of 7.70.
From there, Vascianna's next outing came in last weekend's Big 12 meet. Just like in his season-debut, the freshman placed first in the prelims and went on to win the title the following day with a time of 7.75. His mark from New Mexico currently sits sixth in the nation.
