Texas Tech will have 13 Red Raiders competing Thursday to impress NFL personnel in attendance
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will host its annual Pro Day event Thursday inside the Football Training Facility and Sports Performance Center where scouts from nearly all 32 NFL franchises will evaluate each of the 13 Red Raiders participating.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. with measurements followed by the bench press and vertical jump in the Football Training Facility weight room. Pro Day will then transition to the indoor turf at the Sports Performance Center where participants will be timed in the 40-yard dash and shuttle run before performing position-specific drills for scouts in attendance.
This will be the second opportunity for three of Texas Tech's participants to impress potential pro franchises as offensive lineman Dawson Deaton, wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and defensive back DaMarcus Fields were all invited to the NFL Combine last month. The week-long trip to Indianapolis included many of the same drills and tests as Pro Day on Thursday but also included individual meetings with various NFL scouts and coaches.
Texas Tech also expects 10 other attendees Thursday in offensive lineman Josh Burger, place kicker Jonathan Garibay, wide receiver Kaylon Geiger Sr., linebacker Riko Jeffers, tight end Travis Koontz, wide receiver McLane Mannix, defensive back Eric Monroe, linebacker Jacob Morgenstern, linebacker Colin Schooler and offensive lineman T.J. Storment.
Outside of private workouts, Pro Day is the final test for many potential professionals ahead of the NFL Draft in late April. Texas Tech has had a Red Raider selected in each of the last six years with at least two players drafted in four of those drafts, including a pair last year in Zech McPhearson, a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, and Jack Anderson, who was chosen in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills.
Texas Tech will have coverage and results from each drill available throughout the day at TexasTech.com as well as @TexasTechFB on Twitter. The 2022 NFL Draft is slated for April 28-30 from Las Vegas, Nevada, with television coverage provided by both ESPN and NFL Network all three days.
