Despite a big night from Olle Wallin, Tech fell
FORT WORTH -- The Texas Tech men's tennis team dropped its Big 12 Conference opener, 6-1 Friday night to No. 3 TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.Â
The Red Raiders (12-8, 0-1 Big 12) fell despite another strong performance from junior Olle Wallin, who rolled past No. 65 Lui Maxted of TCU (18-3, 1-0 Big 12).
After dropping the doubles point, the Red Raiders pushed the third-ranked Horned Frogs to three sets in three singles matches, before falling in five of the six singles matches.
TCU used a pair of straight set wins on court two and three to pull ahead 3-0, but Tech ultimately got on the board by virtue of Wallin's victory.
After No. 109 Isaac Arevalo won the opening set 6-4, Arevalo fell 4-6 and 5-7 on court one. The win sealed the team win for the Horned Frogs.
Dimitrios Azoidis did win his opening set 6-1 before falling in third-set tiebreaker.
Franco Ribero shook off a tough opening set to force a decisive third set, but the Argentinean also fell in a third-set breaker.
