No. 20 Red Raiders ready to host match play event

Texas Tech tees off its match play event at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning from The Rawls Course
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will be playing competitive golf on its home turf for the first time since 2017 starting Sunday when the 20th-ranked Red Raiders open a match play event at The Rawls Course.
The two-day, four-team event begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday when the Red Raiders face Oklahoma off the No. 1 tee, while Oklahoma State and Tulsa go off from the No. 10 box at the same time. Texas Tech will turn around and host Oklahoma State later that afternoon before closing the tournament with a similar 8:30 a.m. start Monday versus Tulsa.
This will be the first time head coach JoJo Robertson's team has played at its home course since 2017 when the Red Raiders were fifth at the NCAA Lubbock Regional, securing their third-ever trip to the NCAA Championships. Texas Tech also hosted a stroke play tournament earlier that fall, finishing as the runner-up to start the season.
The match play format could potentially benefit the Red Raiders over their final stretch of the season leading up to the Big 12 Championships later this month and potentially the NCAA Championships in May. The Red Raiders will be searching to get past the NCAA Regional round for the fourth time in program history, and from there, finishing among the top-eight schools over four rounds of stroke play at the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA utilizes a match play format to determine its national champion, seeding the top eight schools from stroke play. Texas Tech has advanced to match play once in its history, reaching the final eight in 2015 after an incredible final 36 holes in what was the Red Raiders' only second appearance all-time in the championship round.
The tournament might not come at a better time for the Red Raiders, who are coming off back-to-back team titles at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas and then the Mountain View Collegiate in Arizona. Texas Tech turned in a 25-under 839 card in Arizona, marking its lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Texas Tech now has 17 team titles in its history under Robertson, who has the Red Raiders up to No. 20 in the latest Golfweek Magazine poll. The Red Raiders will be the second-highest ranked team in the field as Oklahoma State is No. 3 this week, while Oklahoma and Tulsa are at No. 48 and No. 59 in the poll, respectively.
Robertson will send a lineup consisting of senior Amy Taylor, junior Anna Dong, sophomore Gala Dumez and freshmen Chiara Horder and Kylee Loewe into the Oklahoma match. Texas Tech will also have three others playing this week as individuals in fellow freshmen Chelsea Romas and Libby Fleming as well as junior Cecilie Nielsen. Match pairings will be determined Saturday following a selection process with all four head coaches.
Admission is free for all fans wishing to attend any of the three rounds at The Rawls Course. Live scoring will be provided for all three matches at www.Golfstat.com.
