
Red Raiders in California, Florida this weekend

Texas Tech will face several top 10 teams in Florida
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team will split its time this weekend in California (Mt. Sac Relays) and the University of Florida (Tom Jones Memorial).
Mt. Sac Relays
The multis have kicked off the week for Tech already in California as Callie Jones and Aria Tate compete in the heptathlon, while Gary Haasbroek and Denim Rogers are in the decathlon. Meanwhile, Thursday morning, multiple Red Raiders start will be up bright and early for the 10k in Azusa starting at 7 a.m. PT.
Tom Jones Memorial
Over in the Sunshine State, the Red Raiders make their first visit to Florida for a regular-season meet. The field events commence the Tom Jones Memorial Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. starting with the men's discus. The final event TTU is expected to be in that night is the 400 hurdles which start with the women at 6:55 p.m. followed by the men's 20 minutes later.
Saturday, the hammer throw kicks off the day at 10 a.m. with the last running event (4x400) capping off the day at 5:35 p.m. All times in Florida are listed in eastern.
In The Polls
Both Red Raider programs came in ranked No. 7 in the latest poll released Monday afternoon. Last week, each side was ranked No. 4. Multiple top-ranked teams will find themselves in Gainesville this weekend including, four top 10 teams on the men's side and three on the women's side.
On the Lookout
Over at the Mt. Sac Relays, Haasbroek is competing in his second decathlon of the outdoor season. The Aussie opened up his outdoor campaign at the Masked Rider Open a few weeks ago. In the women's elite triple jump section, Ruth Usoro and Ruta Lasmane are expected to make their 2022 outdoor debut.
The entire women's pole vault team will be making the Florida trip as they're ranked No. 1 in the country in the event squad rankings for a second-straight week. They're averaging a height of 4.13m (13'-6.50"). Tech fans should expect to see Oskar Edlund (400 hurdles) and Vashaun Vascianna (110 hurdles) competed for the first time since the indoor season. Vascianna placed fourth in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In the throws section, Seasons Usual will look to regain her No. 1 NCAA mark in the discus of 59.49m (195-2) that she held for three straight weeks – she is currently second but first in the Big 12. The Tech men will be looking to clock a sub 39 time in the 4x100 relay. At the Texas Relays, they combined for a time of 39.12 in the finals which is sixth in the NCAA. Meanwhile, the women's side set a new TTU record in Austin at 43.11 and are fifth in the country.
