The Red Raiders will now head to California and Florida

CANYON, Texas. – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped the Jo Meaker Classic hosted by West Texas A&M Saturday evening.

After leaving day one in second place, Cole Whatley ended his weekend as the decathlon winner of the Jo Meaker Classic. Whatley placed first in the pole vault (4.35m, personal best) and in the 1500 run (4:50.64) to come out on top as the winner in his final five events.

In the women's shot put, Kayli Johnson led the way in first with a mark of 16.31m and went on to win the hammer throw at 55.56m. Over in the high jump, Alexis Ivy finished second at a height of 1.68m.

Meanwhile, in his first 800 collegiate run, Demitrius Guerrero placed 10^th with a time of 1:57.14.

Texas Tech is back in action next weekend as some Red Raiders – distance and jumps – will be going to California for the Mt. Sac Relays (Apr. 13-16). Meanwhile, Tech sprinters and throwers will be in Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial (Apr. 15-16).
