
Dumez paces Tech at Day One of Carmel Cup

The junior shot a round of 70 (-2) to sit tied for fifth
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The No. 24 ranked Texas Tech women's golf program powered by a strong opening round of 70 (-2) from Gala Dumez sits in solo fifth place (+17) after one round of the 2022 Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
A native of France, Dumez got her 2022-23 campaign started off strong, making three birdies in the first six holes. The strong start allowed the Red Raiders top player to make the turn at -2 overall.
The junior recorded her fourth and final birdie of the round on number 10 to move to -3 overall, but a late bogey on 18 dropped her back -2 overall.
Two Red Raiders made their collegiate debuts Friday, as Singapore native Shannon Tan and Canadian Lauren Zaretsky cracked the six-player lineup.
Playing in her home state of California, sophomore Libby Fleming fired a open round of 74 (+2) to find herself inside the top-20 (tied for 18th) heading into tomorrow's second round.
Defending national champion and consensus No. 1 Stanford shares the 18-hole lead with No. 11 Texas A&M after Day One of play. Both the Cardinal and Aggies shot a team score of 358 (-2 overall).
Big 12 foe and No. 15 Oklahoma State sits in solo third after firing a six-over team round of 366, while No. 22 Arkansas finds themselves five shots back at +11 overall (371). Mississippi State resides in sixth place, three shots back (+20) of the Red Raiders, while Oklahoma (+24) and Vanderbilt (+32) round out the eight team field.
Jennie Park of Texas A&M shot the best round of the day (66), and sits at -6 overall. Rose Zhang of Stanford is just two shots back after firing an opening round 68.
