Lady Raiders Return home for No. 19 OU

The Sooners and Lady Raiders meet Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders welcome No. 19/16 Oklahoma Wednesday night for the first of two matchups between the two programs.
Coming off a clutch 78-70 victory at Saturday over TCU, the Lady Raiders (13-3, 1-2 Big 12) with a win could pull to 2-2 overall in Big 12 Conference play.
LAST TIME OUT:
Powered by clutching shooting from the free-throw line, and a couple of key defensive plays, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders downed TCU, 78-70 Saturday afternoon at Scholmier Arena.
Over the final nearly three minutes of action, Texas Tech (13-3, 1-2 Big 12) used clutch 8-of-10 shooting and two strong defensive plays to close out the road win.
With the Lady Raiders up 66-65, both teams were whistled for technical fouls. After TCU (6-8, 0-3 Big 12) knocked down a pair, Bailey Maupin stepped to the line and calmy sank both of Tech's attempts.
On the ensuing Tech possession, forward Ella Tofaeono connected on a layup that gave her team a 70-67 lead with 2:41 to play.
TCU was fouled on its next offensive possession and made one of two to draw to within 70-68 with 2:20 to play.
Tech once again found its way to the free throw line on the next possession, as Bryn Gerlich nailed a pair to give the Lady Raiders a commanding 72-68 advantage with 2:10 to play.
Tofaeono contributed maybe the most important defensive play of the ball game when she blocked a Horned Frog layup. The post secured the rebound giving Tech the ball back with 1:55 to play. The forward was fouled 20 seconds later hitting one-of-two to extend the Tech lead to 73-68.
After the two teams traded defensive stops, a Gerlich driving layup with 51 seconds to go gave Tech a 75-68 advantage.
In the end, Tech rode the momentum to closeout a 78-70 victory.
Guard Bre'Amber Scott finished as Tech's leading scorer on her 24th Birthday, scoring 20 points while Gerlich finished with 16. Maupin was Tech's third player in double figures, as the freshman finished with 14 points.
Tomi Taiwo finished with a game-high 33 points for TCU while Lucy Ibeh finished with 13 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting.
In the end, Saturday's Tech win featured 20 lead changes as the game was tied 15 different times. After heading into the break trailing 31-30, Tech outscored TCU 48-39 in the second half.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS:
Oklahoma enters Wednesday's matchup ranked No. 19 overall in the country and with a record of 12-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play. The Sooners recorded their biggest win of the season back on Sunday when they downed then-unbeaten and No. 11 Iowa State, 82-79. In the victory four Sooners reached double-figures led by Ana Llanusa's 23 points. Averaging over 86 points a game, OU enters the week No. 6 in the country in points per game (86.6) and, No. 3 in assists per game (20.2) and No. 11 in 3-pointers made per game (9.0).
Led by a trio of fifth-year seniors (Llanusa, Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson), OU has four players averaging at least 10 points a game, led by Williams' 16.2. Llanusa averages 12.4 points followed by Robertson's 11.1. The fourth and final player averaging in double-figures in Skylar Vann. Vann is averaging 11.0 points and 7.5 rebounds after earning 2022 Big 12 6th Player of the Year honors in 2021-22. The Sooners have eclipsed 90 points six times this season including a 95-point performance against Florida and a 98-point explosion aganst West Virginia.
OU has been held to fewer than 80 points just twice this season. The Sooners lost both of those contests: Utah (78) and Baylor (70).

•The Lady Raiders are a perfect 13-0 this season when holding teams to under 30 points in the paint in a game. Tech allowed 34 points in the paint against JSU, 38 points in the paint Saturday against ISU and a season-high 44 against KU. For the season, opponents are scoring just 23.0/game inside the paint. Tech has outscored its opponents 450-368 in the paint.
TOUGH SCHEDULE TO START BIG 12 PLAY:
• After opening up with the preseason favorites and top-ranked team in the Big 12 (Iowa State), Tech traveled to No. 21 KU, the team with the best overall record in the Big 12. The Lady Raiders face their third ranked opponent in the first four games when No. 19 Oklahoma comes to town.
BRE'S BACK!
• Senior Bre'Amber Scott is back for her senior season and is playing at a high level. After missing the first two games of the season due to personal reasons, Scott made her return to the Lady Raider lineup before the Colorado game. Tech is now 11-2 this season in Scott's 13 games. The guard missed Tech's game against Mississippi Valley State, after facing travel issues. Scott was dressed for that contest but did not play after pulling into town at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The guard has regained the team in points-per-game (14.0) and has grabbed a team-best 80 rebounds. Her 6.2 rebounds a game are also the best on the Lady Raider squad. Scott has also made a team-best 66 free throws and has taken a team-high 78 attempts. Scott scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her second career-double vs. KU Scott also was a perfect 8-of-8 from the line. Against TCU Scott scored 20 points and was 4-of-5 from the line.
BIG JAZZ MAKES AN IMPACT:
• Houston transfer Jazmaine Lewis has made an immediate impact since transferring to Tech. After recording just five career games with 10+ points during her 68 game UofH career, Lewis already has eight games with 10+ as a Lady Raider (13 games). Against Sam Houston on Dec. 6, Lewis had one of the most efficient games this season by a Lady Raider, when she scored 17 points in just 12 minutes of action. Lewis is shooting 64.0 percent (57-89) from the field and has set a new career-high for points twice this season (A&M Corpus, Sam Houston). Lewis has scored 137 points in just 245 minutes this season. After shooting around 50 percent from the line as a Cougar, Lewis is shooting 71.9 percent (23-of-32) from the charity stripe this season.
WE MISSED THE BIG KAT:
• Grad student Katie "Big Kat" Ferrell made her much anticipated return to the lineup against Sam Houston. After injuring her hand in practice between the A&M Corpus Christi and Jackson State games, Ferrell missed seven straight games. Ferrell is the only active D-I player in the country to have recorded 500 career points, 500 career assists and 700 rebounds. Against MVSU, Ferrell nearly had a triple double without points, as the UTA transfer grabbed six rebounds had seven assists and had five steals. Tech is 7-2 when Ferrell plays and they have outscored opponents by 92 points in her 187 minutes of action this season.
