Scott grabs double-double, as Tech falls at No. 21 KU

The guard contributed 19 and 10 in the loss to the Jayhawks
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Despite 21 points and 10 rebounds from guard Bre'Amber Scott, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell at No. 21 KU 77-59 Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
In the setback, Texas Tech (12-3, 0-2 Big 12) also received 11 points and four rebounds from freshman Jasmine Shavers and a season-high eight points from Katie Ferrell.
The difference in the contest was found inside the paint, as Kansas (12-1, 2-0 Big 12) outscored Tech 44-26 inside.
KU saw 66 of its 77 points come from guard Holly Kersgieter, Zakiyah Franklin and Taiyanna Jackson. Kersgieter scored 26 while Franklin also adde 26. Jackson finished with 15 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
KU got off to a strong start as the home team scored the games' first eight points.
A Ferrell triple sparked a 5-2 run, as the Lady Raiders drew to within 10-5 with 3:22 to play in the opening quarter.
KU clamped down the remainder of the quarter, holding the Lady Raiders scoreless for the remainder of the quarter. The defensive effort allowed KU to enjoy a 15-5 lead after 10 minutes.
Tech scored the first two and four of the first six points in the second, before KU used an 8-0 run to take a 25-9 lead with 7:22 left in the first half.
Tech answered with nine of the next 11 points to draw to within 27-18 with 2:44 to play, but Jackson and the Jayhawks scored the final five points to lead 32-18 at the break.
In the opening 20 minutes the Lady Raiders were plagued by 6-of-24 shooting and 1-of-8 shooting from distance.
With the momentum from the opening 20 minutes, KU scored eight of the first 13 points to lead, 40-23 with 6:46 to play.
Tech once again tried to creep back in the game, using a pair of baskets from forward Jazmaine Lewis to cut the 17-point deficit to just nine points (40-31) with 4:06 to play in the third. Lewis finished with four points and five rebounds.
KU quickly answered with the next four points to go up 44-31, but a McKinney triple with 2:35 to play in the third brought Tech to within 44-34 with 2:35 to play in the third.
The momentum quickly switched back to the Jayhawks who scored the next five and six of the 10 points to take a 51-38 lead into the fourth.
After scoring just 18 points in the opening two quarters, the Lady Raiders did mange to score 20 points due in large part to nine points off four KU turnovers.
In the fourth, KU scored five of the first seven, and 10 of the first 17 to stretch its lead to 61-42 with 6:47 to play in the ballgame.
After a Scott triple brought the Lady Raiders to within 61-45, KU scored eight of the 10 to take a game-high 22 points (69-47) lead with 3:32 to play.
Down the stretch, Tech twice closed to within 18 points, but could get no closer, as KU closed out a 77-59 win.
COACH SPEAK HC KRISTA GERLICH:
"Kansas is number 21 in the country for a reason and they're a very athletic basketball team. I didn't feel like we attacked them like we needed to, and we weren't aggressive enough in the first quarter. We settled for some jumpers and tried to score off just one pass instead of moving the ball around. Our kids played hard, and Big Jazz rebounded the ball pretty well and clogged the paint for us at times. We just lost Kersgieter early in first half then Franklin went to work on us in the second half. So, it was just a difficult night for our matchups. Bre continued to battle and did a good job of attacking the basket. She got to the free throw line and did a good job of making her free throws. But we had a number of matchups tonight that were difficult for us. Our kids tried to execute what we were asking them to do a little bit better in the second quarter. And then in the third quarter we were much more aggressive. But against a team like Kansas you need to play that way from the tip."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Tech has now forced 276 turnovers this season through 15 games.
• In 30 games last season, they forced just 396.
