Cincinnati sweeps Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior libero Maddie Correa posted a team-leading 18 digs, but the Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped a Wednesday night match to the Cincinnati Bearcats, 25-27, 14-25, 10-25, at Fifth Third Arena.
Correa's 18 digs for the Red Raiders (8-15, 1-10 Big 12) were her best in three sets this season. Graduate Caitlin Dugan tallied a team-high 10 kills and senior Reese Rhodes added 20 assists and two kills against the Bearcats (11-9, 4-6 Big 12). On the defense, freshman Abby Dickinson posted eight digs and both Dugan and Madison Gilliland collected two blocks apiece.
Tech and Cincinnati traded points in the first set, as the Red Raiders took a 5-4 advantage with a kill by Williams. Emily Contreras tallied her seventh ace of the year to make things 12-11, then another kill by Williams made it 15-14 heading into the media timeout. The Red Raiders would win the next three points after that before the Bearcats answered with a 4-0 run of their own to tie it at 18-18. Tech had set point at 24-23, but Cincinnati fought back to win the first set by a 27-25 score.
The Bearcats started set two on a 7-2 run and maintained that momentum throughout. Tech sprinkled a few points in, then went on a 4-1 run to make it 20-12 in Cincinnati's favor. The Red Raiders tried to hold off the Bearcats, but Cincinnati would win it, 25-14.
The third set was similar to the second as the Bearcats went ahead 16-3 to start out. Reagan Engler would help Tech to a 3-1 run with two kills and a block to cut into the Cincinnati lead at 17-6. Then, Currie Marusak recorded a few kills to make the score 19-8. However, the Bearcats closed out the set and match with the 25-10 score.
