Tech welcomes UCF to Lubbock for Wednesday night match

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders are back at home with a match on Wednesday, Oct. 4 against the UCF Knights at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders (8-8, 1-3 Big 12) traveled to Fort Worth last weekend for a series against the TCU Horned Frogs. TCU would win the first match in three sets. However, in the second match, Tech fought back to force a fifth set and came up just short to the Horned Frogs.
The Red Raiders total 750 kills, 680 assists, 65 aces, 990 digs and 160.0 blocks as a team. Freshman Kate Hansen currently ranks tied for 11th in the nation with 80.0 total blocks. She is also first in the Big 12 in total blocks. In addition, Hansen ranks 38th with 1.29 blocks per set. As a team, the Red Raiders are tied for ninth in the country with 160.0 total blocks, and only behind Texas and BYU in the conference rankings.
On the offensive end, Caitlin Dugan (196) and Brynn Williams (194) lead the team in kills, while Reese Rhodes has a team-high with 394 assists and Abby Dickinson leads with 11 aces. On defense, Hansen boasts a team-high in blocks and Maddie Correa has a team-leading 241 digs.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Tech and UCF have only played each other twice in program history. The first matchup was a Red Raider victory, 2-0, on Sept. 20, 1980. The Knights evened the series after winning the next match by a 2-1 score the following year on Sept. 18, 1981. Even though it's still early in the Big 12 standings, UCF sits atop the conference with a 4-0 Big 12 record. The Knights are also 13-2 on the year and receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Some key victories include wins over Mississippi State, Syracuse, Florida State, North Texas, Illinois. Oklahoma and Cincinnati. Their two losses came against Wake Forest and No. 17 Purdue.
As a team, the Knights total 647 kills, 589 assists, 124 aces, 594 digs and 80.0 blocks. With 2.58 aces per set, UCF leads the country in that category while Emily Wilson ranks third in the nation with 36 aces. On the offense, there are five Knights with over 100 kills – Wilson (173), Avah Armour (149), Abby Hansen (126), Claudia Dillon (110) and Lauren Clark (105). Abby Schomers also leads with 577 assists. In addition, Chloe Scheer has a team-best 163 digs and Hansen posts a team-high 47.0 blocks.

Doors open one hour prior to first serve at the Northwest entrance of the United Supermarkets Arena. The clear bag policy is in effect for all Texas Tech Athletics events. Fans can also purchase tickets online or at the arena (NW entrance).
During Wednesday's match, Texas Tech will host a raffle throughout the night to give away a white Yeti cooler, AirPods, a speaker, an LG 55-inch TV, a PS5 and a coaches signed volleyball. No purchase is necessary and all fans who come to the match will receive a raffle ticket. Red Raider Nation is encouraged to wear black. The match against UCF will also be Texas Tech's Mental Health Awareness game.
