LUBBOCK, Texas – After a dominant showing in doubles at the ITA Texas Regionals a couple weeks ago, the tandem of Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova are heading to San Diego for the ITA Fall National Championships on Nov. 1-5.
The Lady Raiders, who are ranked No. 15 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, automatically qualified for nationals when they won the doubles title at regionals. Komac and Sayfetdinova become just the second Tech duo to win the championships in program history and first since 2015.
The Lady Raider pairing is 6-1 on the season, with their only loss coming at the hands of No. 19 Mia Kupres and Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M. Komac and Sayfetdinova are coming off an impressive 2023 season that saw them go 20-8 overall, 13-7 in dual matches and 6-1 in conference. The duo was named All-Big 12 Second Team in doubles and earned the Big 12 Champion at the No. 1 position.
Komac and Sayfetdinova are set to take on Grand Cayon University's pairing of Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha in the first round of the main draw on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. CT.
