Lila, Sherif earn doubles title at Big 12 Fall Championships

WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders closed their fall season out in a big way as the duo of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif claimed the doubles title and the team recorded 16 overall wins this weekend at the Big 12 Fall Individual Championships.
First, the Lady Raider pairing defeated Houston's Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten, 6-1, before downing the six-seeded UCF tandem of Noel Saidenova and Jantje Tilbuerger, 7-5. Lila and Sherif earned a semifinals win over BYU's Tina Li and Kara Wheatley, 7-5, and would claim the title in the Red Draw with a 6-4 victory against seven-seeded Emma Staker and Florencia Urrutia of Oklahoma, 6-4.
In the same draw, both Mariya Polishchuk and Cristina Tiglea posted a quarterfinals win against Cincinnati's Victoire de Samucewicz and Callie Flanagan, 6-2, before falling to the eventual finalists from Oklahoma in the semifinals.
In singles, Lila was a Green Draw finalist after she won three matches. She would defeat Iowa State's Isabella Dunlap first, 6-4, 6-4, then Baylor's Danielle Tuhten, 6-7 (3), 6-1, 1-0 (9). In the semifinals, Lila overtook Staker (Oklahoma), 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6), before dropping the finals match to No. 32-ranked Urrutia (Oklahoma), 6-4, 6-0.
No. 113 Polishchuk won the Gold West Finals when she beat Kyoka Kubo (Kansas), 6-4, 6-2. She also posted wins against Tina Li (BYU), 7-6 (4), 6-4, and Jantje Tilbuerger (UCF), 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8), to make it to the finals.
In addition, Tiglea led the Lady Raiders with three ranked singles wins in the tournament. She beat No. 120 Anna Supapitch Kuearum (Iowa State), 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6), in the first round of the Gold Draw before falling in the next round to No. 79 Alina Shcherbinina of Oklahoma. Tiglea would then respond by winning the Gold North Finals when she overtook No. 59 Isabella Harvison (Baylor), 7-6 (8), 6-3, and No. 51-ranked and one-seeded Dana Guzman (Oklahoma), 6-4, 6-1.
