Red Raiders sweep UTRGV, ACU on Sunday

LUBBOCK, Texas – Over the past three matches, Texas Tech has not given up a single point as they overtook the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros and Abilene Christian Wildcats, both by a 7-0 score, on Sunday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
TTU 7, UTRGV 0 Recap:
The Red Raiders (5-4) earned their second-straight sweep after downing the Vaqueros (3-6) by a 7-0 score. It started when Tech won its sixth doubles point of the year with victories at courts two and three.
First, the Red Raiders duo of Isaac Arevalo and Tyler Stewart posted a dominant 6-2 victory on three against Chris Lawrance and Agustin Salazar. Then, Piotr Pawlak and Franco Ribero clinched the point when they defeated Borna Devald and Sam Whitehead, 6-4, on court two.
With a 1-0 advantage, the Red Raiders continued to impress when they didn't lose any of their singles matches. Olle Wallin started things off at court one, where he only gave up two games to Emilien Burnel, 6-1, 6-1.
Arevalo followed suit, winning his first singles match of the dual season, after overtaking Devald by a 6-0, 6-1 score on court three. Then, freshman Lorenzo Esquici collected his second match clinch of the season when he beat Salazar at court six, 6-1, 6-1.
The Red Raiders closed out the match when Ribero defeated Karlo Krolo at court two, 6-3, 6-3, then Dimitrios Azoidis overtook Whitehead on court four, 6-1, 7-6 (1).
Stewart would deliver the winning match to sweep the Vaqueros after winning in three sets over Lawrance at court five, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (5).
TTU 7, ACU 0 Recap:
Texas Tech tallied its second win of the day after defeating ACU, 7-0. For the seventh time this season, the Red Raiders won the doubles point after Arevalo and Stewart beat ACU's (6-3) Savan Chhabra and Ethan Scribner, 6-1, at court three, then Pawlak and Ribero clinched their second doubles point of the day at court two over Benjamin McDonald and Daniel Morozov, 7-5.
In singles, Arevalo stayed having the hot hand after he won his fourth match of the day. Taking on Cesar Barranquero at court three, the Red Raider would go up 6-1, 3-1, before his opponent retired.
With a 2-0 advantage, Wallin would pick up another win on the day when he beat Dario Kmet, 6-2, 6-3 at court one. Clinching the match for the Red Raiders was Stewart at court six when he easily defeated Mihaly Deli, 6-2, 6-3.
Reed Collier recorded his first singles win of the afternoon when he won his match against Chhabra on court four, 6-4, 6-2. Ribero earned his sixth win of the week after delivering a victory at court two over Morozov, 6-2, 6-4.
Esquici was the lone Red Raider left in the match over at court five as he took on Wildcat player, McDonald. Esquici was down 3-5 in his first set, but would go on to win four-straight games to claim it, 7-5. He finished the match quickly after the second set when he defeated McDonald, 7-5, 6-3.
The Red Raiders have a short break before heading to Montgomery, Ala., for the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Feb. 24-25.
