The Lady Raiders will look to snap a four-game losing skid
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will look to snap a season-long four-game losing skid on Wednesday night when they play host to the Mountaineers of West Virginia at United Supermarkets Arena.
On Wednesday night, Texas Tech (16-11, 4-10 Big 12) will also look to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Mountaineers.

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders dropped a triple-overtime heartbreaker, 92-80 to Oklahoma State, Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena.
On senior day, Texas Tech (16-11, 4-10 Big 12) received 58 of its 80 points from seniors Bre'Amber Scott, Katie Ferrell and Bryn Gerlich. Battling through an early injury, Scott was sensational on Saturday, scoring 18 of her game-high 30 in the final three sessions.
Ferrell was strong early for Tech scoring 11 of her 15 in the first half. Both players finished with a double-double as Scott grabbed a game-high 11 boards while Ferrell recorded 10 for her first double-double in a Lady Raider uniform.
In the 55-minute affair, Gerlich played 50 minutes and 13 seconds with Ferrell right behind at 48 minutes and 46 seconds. Scott played 39:33 on Saturday, while guard Rhyle McKinney also played 38 minutes. McKinney scored 14 points, nine of which came in the first half.
Gerlich was strong late, scoring seven of her 13 points in the three extra sessions.
Tech was plagued by uncharacteristic off night from distance. The Lady Raiders shot just 4-of-18 from three, as players not named McKinney shot just 2-of-16.
For the Cowgirls (19-7, 9-5 Big 12) guard Naomie Alnatas scored 28 points in 49 minutes of action while guard Lexy Keys dropped 16 points, 11 of which came in the three OT sessions.
In the three overtime sessions, OSU shot 11-20 (55 percent) from the floor, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 12-of-14 from the line (85.7 percent), as the Lady Raiders were outscored 16-4 in the final overtime session.
Today's loss snaps an 11-game winning streak for head coach Krista Gerlich in OT games. The former Lady Raider had won her final seven OT games at UTA and her first four at Texas Tech.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
• West Virginia enters Wednesday contest at 16-9 overall and 7-7 in Big 12 play. The last team in the field of 64 in the most recent ESPN Bracketology, the Mountaineers are just 2-6 away from Morgantown this season. The Mountaineers have lost three straight conference road games (OSU, OU and UT).
• The Mountaineers have lost four-of-six overall. The stretch began back on Feb. 1 when they fell to UT at home. WVU saw its losing streak climb to three after they fell at both OU (93-68) and OSU (76-65). WVU saw a two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon in Austin.
• In the first matchup against the Lady Raiders, WVU overcame 3-of-22 shooting from distance to shoot 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the fourth and final quarter. The Mountaineers behind 18 points from Jayla Hemingway and 17 points from Madisen Smith outscored Tech 31-25 in the fourth.
• Guards JJ Quinerly and Madisen Smith lead the way for WVU this season. Quinerly's the Mountaineers leading scorer checking in at 14.4 points per game, while Smith has added 12.9 PPG and a team-best 175 triples. As a team WVU have taken 578 3-pointers, over 22 per game. The Mountaineers are 13-6 when hitting five or more 3-pointers in a game this season.
• Known for their ability to force turnovers, WVU forced 41 turnovers earlier in the season against USC Upstate and forced Tech into committing 20 turnovers in the first matchup. WVU's 7-1 when forcing 20 or more turnovers and 11-1 when forcing 19 or more.
STORYLINES:
IT ALL BEGAN AGAINST HER FORMER TEAM:
• Bryn Gerlich has taken her offensive game to a different level the last four games. After scoring a career-best 25 points at Oklahoma State, Gerlich scored 16 points against K-State and at UT before adding 18 points against KU. Gerlich has now scored 98 points the last six games and has increased her PPG from 7.7 to 9.6. Gerlich has had eight of her 11 double figure games this season occur during conference play. The guard has recorded six straight games in double-figures for the first time in her career.
BIG KAT, BIGGER IMPACT:
• Grad student Katie "Big Kat" Ferrell made her much anticipated return to the lineup against Sam Houston. After injuring her hand in practice between the A&M Corpus Christi and Jackson State games, Ferrell missed seven straight games. Ferrell is the only active D-I player in the country to have recorded 600 career points, 500 career assists, 700 rebounds and 75 blocks, .
Against MVSU, Ferrell nearly had a triple double without points, as the UTA transfer grabbed six rebounds had seven assists and had five steals. Tech is 8-2 when she records three or more assists. The guard-forward has fouled out in eight games this season including seven of 13 Big 12 games. Ferrell has been in significant foul trouble (4+ fouls) in nine of Tech's 12 B12 games. The lone two she hasn't been in foul trouble were UT and K-State (both Tech wins). Ferrell reached four fouls on Saturday, but it wasn't until midway through the third overtime session.
GOTTA GET TO THE LINE:
• The free throw line, especially in Big 12 play has been a great indicator of whether or not the Lady Raiders have won or not. Tech is 2-2 in Big 12 play this season when out attempting its opponents from the line. The number is 3-4 when attempting more. The Lady Raiders are 3-2 in B12 play when making 20+ attempts. The Lady Raiders are 1-7 this season in conference games when they make fewer attempts and just 2-7 when getting out attempted from the line by a conference foe. Win number one when making fewer attempts came in the home win against K-State.
BRE'S LEADING THE WAY:
• Senior Bre'Amber Scott is back for her senior season and is playing at a high level. After missing the first two games of the season due to personal reasons, Scott made her return to the Lady Raider lineup before the Colorado game. Tech is now 14-10 this season in Scott's 24 games. The guard leads the team in points-per-game (17.5) and has grabbed a team-best 141 rebounds. Her 6.3 rebounds a game are also the best on the Lady Raider squad. Scott has also made a team-best 137 free throws and has taken a team-high 172 attempts. The guard has attempted at least one free throw in every game this season except at OSU. Bre has scored at least 18 points in 12 of 14 conference games and has reached double figures in all but one.
LONGEST GAME IN PROGRAM HISTORY:
• Texas Tech's 3 OT loss Saturday to Oklahoma State marked the first triple overtime game in program history. The Lady Raiders are now 19-20 all-time in overtime including a 1-1 mark this season. Saturday's loss was also significant as it snapped an 11-game winning streak for coach Gerlich in OT games. Gerlich is now 13-9 all-time in extra session contests.
WE'LL TAKE THAT:
• Texas Tech has forced 364 turnovers over the last 21 contests (17.3/game) including a Krista Gerlich Era record 24 vs. Alabama State. As a team the Lady Raiders have forced 464 turnovers through the seasons first 26 games (17.3). All of last season Tech forced just 396. The Lady Raiders are 13-5 this season when forcing more than 15 turnovers and have forced at least 20 turnovers five times. Tech did not force at least 20 turnovers in a game at all last season.
WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE:
• The Lady Raiders are 15-2 this season when holding teams to under 30 points in the paint and 16-2 when holding teams to 32 or less in a game. Oklahoma State scored 48 points in the paint back on Feb. 1. Tech is 0-7this season when allowing 35+ paint points in B12 play. The only game Tech has lost this season when holding a team under 30 points in the paint was Jan. 21 at WVU when the Mountaineers scored just 14 points in the paint. OU scored 44 of its 84 points in the paint.
