LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Krista Gerlich has announced the addition of 6'3" Florida transfer Jordyn Merritt.
A 2020-21 All-SEC Freshman Team selection, Merritt averaged 7.9 points per game and grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game in her three seasons in Gainesville.
During her freshman campaign, Merritt made an immediate impact, averaging 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 26 games played. The Plano native recorded four double-figure scoring games including 15 points in a season-high 38 minutes against Georgia, and a season-best 17 points in the opening round WNIT victory over Charlotte.
In 2021-22, Merritt recorded her most productive season, averaging 10.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in 27 games played, helping lead her Gator team to 21 victories and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The forward had 14 games with at least 10 points, including a 23 point and seven rebound performance against Missouri. The versatile forward shot an impressive 31-of-75 from 3-point range (41.3).
Last season, Merritt scored 7.1 points per game, grabbed 5.4 rebounds and shot a career-best 71.9 percent from the charity stripe. The Texan opened the season with four straight double figure games and had 10 points in five of the first six games.
Merritt will arrive at Tech later this summer and will have two years of eligibility left.
She joins freshmen Loghan Johnson, Achol Magot and Kelly Mora in the Lady Raider signing class.
Fresh off the programs first postseason appearance in decade, Tech returns a dynamic roster that includes Big 12 All-Freshman team selection Bailey Maupin, three-time Freshman of the Week Jasmine Shavers and sharpshooter Rhyle McKinney.
COACH SPEAK (HC KRISTA GERLICH):
"Watching Jordyn in high school, she was an elite talent and a five-star kid. She's really athletic, has great length to her game and defends really well. She can run the floor, can score it and can even stretch out and hit the three. She's a really versatile player and can play a couple of different positions for us. She's going to help us rebound, defend and she's going to be a great scorer for us. I love her winning mentality and how she's competed at a high level her entire life. She will come in and make an immediate impact for us."
