Wallin set for NCAA Singles Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – Making his NCAA Singles Championships debut on Monday morning, junior Olle Wallin is set to face No. 36-ranked Michael Zheng of Columbia in the Round of 64 on May 22 at 10:30 a.m. CT at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Wallin is tied for the team lead in singles wins with 15 overall while collecting 13 victories at the line one position, where he played all season. Wallin tallies a team-best nine ranked singles wins on the year with notable victories over No. 29 Ozan Baris (Michigan State), No. 57 Murphy Cassone (Arizona State), No. 48 Pablo Alemany (Memphis) and No. 73 Jack Pinnington (TCU).
Currently checked in at No. 48 in the latest ITA rankings, the Red Raider earned All-Big 12 First Team Singles with two Big 12 victories. Winning Big 12 Player of the Week on March 14, Wallin is the first Red Raider to appear in the NCAA Singles Championships since Jolan Cailleau in 2017.
Wallin is facing Zheng in the first round of play as the Lion boasts an overall 30-8 record in singles. Zheng has picked up big wins against Shunsuke Mitsui (Tennessee), Ryan Seggerman (UNC), Tyler Zink (Oklahoma State) and Filip Planinsek (Alabama). The freshman from New Jersey is also making his NCAA Singles debut as he helped the Lions advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in early May.
