Keys earns Second Team All-American honors

Joe Keys’ point total Thursday is a new career-high when it comes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships meet
AUSTIN, Texas – Joe Keys scored a top-3 mark for Texas Tech in the decathlon and Rosemary Chukwuma secured a finals lane in the 100m as Tech wrapped up day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships Thursday night.Â

Joe Keys began his final day with a slight wind-aided time of 14.67 (+2.7) in the 110 hurdles as he won his heat, moving from 17th to 13th overall. Keys threw a SB in the javelin registering a mark of 54.50m (178-10), using just one attempt before passing the next two. He finished the javelin competition 9th overall.Â

In the final decathlon event of the evening, Keys posted a 1500m time of 4:32.29, taking 2nd overall. Keys ended his two day run scoring 7,646 points for 12th, which is No. 3 all-time in Tech history. He now owns the No. 2 (7,697) and No. 3 marks for TTU. In the process, he earns Second Team All-American honors.Â

Rosemary Chukwuma was the only Tech sprinter to book a finals lane for Saturday. Chukwuma posted a time of 11.01 (+0.1w), the 2nd-fastest time of the night, easily taking her heat. The time is also No. 2 all-time for TTU, only behind her time of 10.99 which she set at least years' NCAA meet, also in the semifinals.ÂJoe Keys finishes his night taking 2nd in the 1500m with a time of 4:32.39.

- The women's 4x100 team of Serena Clark, Chukwuma, Demisha Roswell and Adriane Nwonumah posted a SB time of 43.32 but missed the cut by three spots. The time is No. 5 all-time for Tech.
- Roswell ran a 12.99 (+0.2w) in the 100 hurdles but missed the cut by two spots.
