NBA Summer League features former Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – A strong contingent of former Red Raiders will be in Las Vegas for NBA 2K24 Summer League 2023 with Adonis Arms (Brooklyn), Kevin Obanor (Toronto), Tariq Owens (Memphis), Jahmi'us Ramsey (Oklahoma City), Zhaire Smith (Oklahoma City), Davion Warren (Orlando), and Bryson Williams (Los Angeles Clippers) all set to play in the event that will run from July 7-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion.
Rosters are subject to change leading into the weekend. In the 18th NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, all 30 NBA teams will play at least five games each. After each team plays four games, the top four teams will advance to the playoffs and participate in the semifinals on Sunday, July 16. The two winning teams from the semifinal games will meet in the championship game on Monday, July 17 on ESPN.
Arms played at Tech during the 2021-22 season, helping to lead the Red Raiders to the 2022 NCAA Sweet 16 before playing in the NBA G-League last year. He averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game in his only season with the Red Raiders last season. Arms started 25 of 37 games, scoring a season-high 16 points in the win over Mississippi State and also went for 15 points four times. He finished the season by contributing 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Duke in the Sweet 16. A Milwaukee native, Arms played two seasons at Mesa Community College, one at Northwest Nazarene and one at Winthrop before playing his super senior season at Tech. Arms earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection.
Obanor will join the Raptors this season as an undrafted free agent after playing the past two seasons at Tech. He earned 2023 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection after leading Tech with 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and finished collegiate career with 2,137 points and 1,094 rebounds in 155 games played. He started all 32 games as a fifth-year senior and started all 69 games during his two seasons. As a Red Raider, Obanor had 831 points and 410 rebounds after beginning his career by playing three seasons at Oral Roberts. He finished his career with 37 double-doubles, including six in the NCAA Tournament.
Owens played in the 2018-19 season at Tech and helped lead the team to the 2019 NCAA National Championship Final. He played last year for Pallacanestro Varese in Italy. At Tech, Owens set a new single-season program record with 92 blocked shots in his only season at Tech, including an eight-block performance against Memphis. He finished the season with 2.42 blocks per game which ranked 13th nationally and also provided 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Red Raiders. Owens had a career-high 14 rebounds in the regular-season finale at Iowa State to help lead the Red Raiders to the program's first Big 12 regular-season championship and had 10 rebounds in the Sweet 16 win over Michigan. He finished the year with a blocked shot in 37 of 38 games and his career with 270 blocks.
Ramsey played for the Red Raiders during the 2019-20 season and was selected in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft by Sacramento. He has played in the NBA G-League the past the past three years, including the past two with Oklahoma City Blue. An Arlington, Texas native, Ramsey earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 Second Team, NABC All-District First Team, Big 12 All-Newcomer Team, Big 12 All-Freshman Team and was a three-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selection. Ramsey, who was the first Red Raider to earn Big 12 Freshman of the Year, finished the season fifth in the Big 12 in scoring and was second with a 42.6 percentage on 3-pointers and fifth with a 44.2 shooting percentage.
Smith played at Tech during the 207-18 season and became the program's first one-and-done player after he was acquired during a 2018 NBA Draft night trade by the Philadelphia 76ers after being selected with the 16th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns. He was the second player in program history to be selected in the NBA Draft First Round, following Tony Battie who was chosen with the fifth overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in 1997. Â In his one season at Tech, Smith produced 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game over his 37 appearances during his freshman season. His 417 total points were a program single-season freshman record. A Garland native, he was the first freshman to earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and USBWA All-District 7 First-Team status. Â
Warren averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and led Tech with 1.4 steals per game as a super senior at Tech and helped lead the Red Raiders to the 2022 NCAA Sweet 16. Warren played in the NBA G-League last year for the College Park Skyhawks. He scored in double figures in 19 games, including going for a season-high 23 points in a home win over Kansas State and 10 against Montana State in the NCAA Tournament First Round. Warren led Tech with 53 total steals during the season with a high of four coming in the win over KSU and with 18 games where he had two or more steals. A starter in 33 games, Warren played in all 37 games and averaged 9.6 points in Big 12 play where he started all 18 games. Warren finished his collegiate career with 1,944 points after scoring 349 in his one season at Tech.
Williams played one season at Tech, leading the Red Raiders to the 2022 NCAA Sweet 16 and finishing the season averaging 14.1 points per game. Â He played last season in the NBA G-League for the Ontario Clippers. At Tech, Williams scored in double figures in 29 games. A starter in all 37 games for the Red Raiders, Williams earned All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team honors along with NABC and USBWA All-District. A Fresno, California native, he played one season at Tech after starting his career with two seasons at Fresno State and two at UTEP. Williams finished his collegiate career with 2,149 points and 900 rebounds. As a Red Raider, he scored a season-high 33 points at Kansas and finished the season with 21 points and five rebounds against Duke in the Sweet 16.
