LUBBOCK, Texas – Preview season is officially here with the release of The Almanac which went live at cbbalmanac.com on Wednesday and is highlighted for Texas Tech fans by the selection of Grant McCasland as the Big 12 Preseason Coach of the Year and the Red Raiders receiving votes in its Preseason Top 25.
The online publication is in its second year and features work from members of Field of 68, Heat Check CBB, Three Man Weave and Verbal Commits. The preview section on Texas Tech includes a roster breakdown from college basketball writer Rob Dauster who interviewed McCasland this summer. The Almanac also conducted anonymous polls and came up with Texas Tech as the Big 12's Biggest Sleeper by coaches throughout the conference.
Texas Tech is only 49 days from opening its season against Texas A&M-Commerce on November 8 at the United Supermarkets Arena and has a strong non-conference schedule which includes playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas along with games against Oral Roberts and Vanderbilt. McCasland is in his first season at Tech after leading UNT to the NIT Championship and looks to lead the Red Raiders back to the NCAA Tournament. Tech had made the NCAA Tournament four straight seasons before missing out last season. The program advanced to the 2019 NCAA Championship final, the 2018 Elite, and 2022 Sweet 16 to highlight recent success.
Tech's non-conference schedule in head coach Grant McCasland's first season includes: Texas A&M-Commerce (Nov. 8), San Jose State (Nov. 12), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 16), three games at Battle 4 Atlantis (Nov. 22-24), at Butler (Nov. 30), Omaha (Dec. 6), Oral Roberts (Dec. 12), vs. Vanderbilt in Fort Worth (Dec. 16), UTA (Dec. 21), Sam Houston (Dec. 28), and North Alabama (Jan. 1, 2024). The Big 12 schedule is expected to be announced later this month.
McCasland's roster consists of five returners and nine newcomers. Pop Isaacs is the lone returning starter from last year's team where he earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 11.5 points per game. Texas Tech added experienced players to its roster from the transfer portal with the additions of Devan Cambridge (Arizona State), Joe Toussaint (West Virginia), KyeRon Lindsay (Georgia), Darrion Williams (Nevada), Chance McMillian (Grand Canyon) and Warren Washington (Arizona State).    Â
The Red Raiders boast an impressive 117-22 home record over the past eight seasons and are coming off a year where the program averaged 13,222 fans per game which ranked No. 1 throughout the state of Texas, third in the Big 12 and 21st nationally. Single game tickets for Red Raider Basketball home games will go on sale later this fall with more information being released at a later date.
