Tech finishes as runner-up in Albuquerque

The Red Raiders finished second at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate and had two players tie for second place individually
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- No. 17 Texas Tech captured a second-place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Tuesday, closing the tournament with a 54-hole score of 26-under-par after the morning's third and final round. The Red Raiders' runner-up finish was three shots behind tournament champion, and host, New Mexico.
Tech closed the 20-team tournament, featuring five nationally ranked opponents at the UNM Championship Course, with an 8-under-par 280 final round score.
Both Calum Scott and Tyran Snyders fired a 10-under-par over 54 holes, placing them tied with each other in second place. The individual champion, Tyler Kowack of San Diego State, holed out for eagle on the par-4, 428-yard sixth hole down the stretch to leapfrog the duo for the win finishing 11-under-par.
Snyders had a total of 14 birdies and one eagle in three rounds of golf. Snyders used rounds of 67 (-5) in the first round, 68 (-4) in the second and 71 (-1) in the third round. Â
Scott saved his best round for last, shooting a 5-under par in Tuesday's third round. Scott recorded six birdies over his final 13 holes. Scott owned scores of 69 (-3) in round one, 70 (-2) in round two and 67 (-5) in round three. Â
Matthew Comegys finished the tournament 5-under par and tied for 15th against the field. Comegys recorded 13 birdies and one eagle on his scorecard over the course of the 54-hole tournament.Â
Ben Gregg, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 18th. Gregg finished 2-under-par to lead all participants that entered the tournament as an individual.Â
