Red Raiders in Fort Worth for conference series against TCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – After splitting a conference series against No. 17-ranked Kansas last weekend, the Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-6, 1-1 Big 12) will play in their first road Big 12 series against the TCU Horned Frogs (8-5, 1-1 Big 12) this Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28-29 at Schollmaier Arena. The Red Raiders have their first match on Thursday at 6 p.m. followed by another 6 p.m. contest on Friday versus TCU.
Last Friday, Tech earned its first ranked victory in two years with a reverse sweep of the Jayhawks. Caitlin Dugan led the match with 18 kills, libero Maddie Correa posted 29 digs and setter Reese Rhodes tallied 47 assists. Kansas swept the Red Raiders in the following match to even the series.
As a team, Tech totals 150.0 blocks which is ranked sixth nationally. The Red Raiders' 2.68 blocks per set is 22nd in the nation, and in addition, freshman Kate Hansen is 31st nationally in blocks per set (1.35) and T-6th with 73.0. The Red Raiders' defense in the back court is just as impressive as it is up at the net. Tech is 21st in the nation and first in the Big 12 with 873 digs, while also ranking 49th nationally in digs per set (15.59).
On offense, Brynn Williams leads Tech with 180 kills, 206.5 points and 10 aces, while Rhodes has a team-best 348 assists and Reagan Engler posts a team-high .238 hitting clip. Defensively, Correa leads with 216 digs and Hansen leads in blocks.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
TCU comes into the series with an 8-5 record overall and 1-1 Big 12 record. The all-time series between the Horned Frogs and Red Raiders is tied at 14-14. TCU took both matches from the Red Raiders last season, snapping a three-match win streak for Tech. TCU's key wins this season include Georgia, Utah State, Texas A&M, Hawaii, Florida State and Kansas State. Some losses came at the hands of the Wildcats, UNI, Coastal Carolina, No. 2 Wisconsin and No. 7 Minnesota.
As a team, TCU totals 614 kills and a .211 hitting percentage, 575 assists, 68 aces, 724 digs and 152.5 blocks, which is fourth in the nation. Melanie Parra leads the Horned Frogs with 226 kills and 22 aces, while Riley Buckley leads with 424 assists. Defensively, Carly Bramschreiber has a team-high 161 digs and Brianna Green posts a team-best 73.0 blocks.
