Tech falls in three at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – Graduate Simone Overbeck posted career highs in digs and kills on Thursday evening, but the Texas Tech Red Raiders would fall to the TCU Horned Frogs, 16-25, 12-25, 22-25, at Schollmaier Arena.
Tech (8-7, 1-2 Big 12) was led in kills by Emily Merrick with seven, while she also added two blocks against TCU (9-5, 2-1 Big 12). Overbeck came into the match halfway into the second set and was able to tally a career-high five slams and five digs for a .211 hitting clip. Freshman Kate Hansen also totaled two blocks in the match and junior Maddie Correa collected a team-best seven digs.
In the first set, TCU went out to a 6-3 lead before a block from Emily Merrick stopped the run. TCU would get two points back before Tech went on a 3-0 run on kills from Merrick to come within a point at 8-7. The Horned Frogs held on, though, eventually leading 15-10 at the media timeout. Tech would answer with three-consecutive points on kills from Dugan and Williams to cut the deficit to 16-13, but TCU held on to win the set by a 25-16 score.
TCU started the second set with a 3-0 run after a block and two aces from Audrey Nalls. Tech stopped the run on a kill by Williams, then earned two more points with a slam from Merrick and an ace from Abby Dickinson to make it 5-3. However, the Horned Frogs would win six of the next seven points to take an 11-4 lead. The Horned Frogs went on a 5-0 run for the 20-8 advantage before Tech won four of six points, highlighted by kills from Merrick and Overbeck. But, TCU maintained the lead to win it, 25-12.
The Red Raiders started out hot in set three, taking a 6-3 advantage thanks to aces from Dickinson and Hansen, and a kill from Overbeck. TCU clawed back, eventually coming within a point on a Tech attack error at 8-7. The Red Raiders held the lead after kills from Dugan and Overbeck, but then the Horned Frogs went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-12 lead going into the media timeout. The set remained close as Tech came back to tie things up at 19-19 to force a TCU timeout. The Red Raiders went ahead after winning five-straight points on a kill from Katelyn Cochran and an ace from Correa, but TCU answered to even things at 21-all. The Horned Frogs were able to regain the lead to win it, 25-22.
