Zaretsky finishes top-five, Tech seventh at Carmel Cup

The Sophomore recorded three straight strong rounds to record a top-five finish
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Battling with six teams that made the NCAA Championships a year ago, the Texas Tech women's golf team powered by a top-five finish from sophomore Lauren Zaretsky finished seventh at the Carmel Cup hosted by Mississippi State and the Pebble Beach Golf Club.
In what is arguably the strongest week of her young career, Zaretsky fired rounds of 68-69-73 to finish at -6 overall.
The other strong finisher for the Red Raiders was fellow sophomore Shannon Tan who finished at -1 for the week after firing a two-under round of 70 on Sunday. In the first event of the season the sophomore finished tied for 13th.
As a team, the Red Raiders finished at +25 on the week, five shots behind sixth place Oklahoma State.
Stanford bookended a pair of rounds of 352 (-8) to win the 2023 Carmel Cup at -22 overall. SEC foes Arkansas (-14), Texas A&M (-10), Vanderbilt (+7) and Mississippi State (+9) rounded out the top-10.
As previously mentioned, Oklahoma State finished sixth (+20), followed by the Red Raiders (+25) and Oklahoma (+45).
Stanford's Megha Ganne used an opening round 66 and a final round 67 to finish at -15 overall, four shots clear of Arkansas true freshman Maria Jose Marin. World Amatuer No. 1 Julia Lopez Ramirez finished third at -7 overall, one shot clear of Zaretsky and Cernousek.

The Red Raiders head to the Sam Golden Invitational hosted by the University of North Texas. The two-day event is scheduled for Sept. 11-12.
