SAN MARCOS, Texas -- In the final round of the Jim West Challenge, the Texas Tech women's golf team fired a season-low 13-under-par 275 on Monday at Kissing Tree Golf Club. The performance pushed the Red Raiders into a tie for fourth place, alongside Ohio State to finish the two-day event hosted by Texas State.
Lauren Zaretsky led the way, finishing in a tie for second place. She shot a final round 7-under-par 66, setting a new single-round season-low. It was powered by five birdies and an eagle.
Her season-low 66 (-6) on Monday, was preceded by setting a then-season-low in the first round when Zaretsky carded a 5-under-par 67. With a 2-over 74 in round two, the junior led the Red Raiders with her best 54-hole score this season (9-under 207), which secured her runner-up finish.
Maja Ambroziak (71), Klara Hurtova (68) and Kylee Loewe (70) joined Zaretsky to complete the quartet of countable scores that made up the Red Raiders' season-low team round on Monday.
Ambroziak and Loewe both finished tied for 18th place while Hurtova skyrocketed up the individual leaderboard, finishing tied for 22nd.
Ambroziak had another round filled with steady play, which consisted of 16 straight pars to start her final round on Monday. She eagled her second-to-last hole but bogeyed the last to finish with a 1-under-par 71 in the final round. She collected 41 pars overall during the tournament en route to a 2-under-par 214.
Loewe earned her first career top 20 finish with her tie for 18th place using a career-best 54-hole 2-under-par 214. After a 2-under 70 and a 2-over 74 in Sunday's first two rounds, Loewe fired off five birdies against three bogeys in the final round for her second 2-under-par 70 at the Jim West Challenge - both season-low scores. The final round 70 jumped the senior five spots up the leaderboard to earn her career-best finish.
Hurtova finished strong in the final round, firing her third subpar round in a final round this season by carding a 4-under-par 68 on Monday. With five birdies, four of which were on the back nine, the sophomore was able to jump 13 spots up the leaderboard from being in 35th place after 36 holes to secure herself a position inside the top 25.
The rounds on Monday by Ambroziak, Hurtova, Loewe and Zaretsky steered Texas Tech to a season-low 54-hole tournament score of 15-under-par (849), spearheaded by Monday's 13-under-par 275 - which led all 12 teams on Monday.
The Red Raiders will return to action for their final tournament of the fall season, Oct. 28-29, at the Charles SchwabWomen's Collegiate in Fort Worth, Texas.
