Stewart, Arsic record three wins at Big 12/SEC Challenge

WACO, Texas – The Big 12 Conference, represented by Texas Tech, Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor and Oklahoma State, won the Big 12/SEC Challenge tournament this weekend with the help of six total victories from the Red Raiders. The Big 12 recorded 48 wins to the SEC's 42.
Both Tyler Stewart and Niksa Arsic led the team with three wins apiece after getting two singles and a doubles win together. Stewart started the competition out with an impressive, ranked win against Alabama's Matias Ponce De Leon, who is ranked No. 118 in singles, by a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) score. Stewart added another victory to his resume on the final day after defeating Florida's Tanapatt Nirundorn in straight-sets, 7-6 (9), 6-3.
Arsic recorded a couple wins against Auburn and Florida players, beating Tiger Joey Phillips, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, before taking down Gator Magnus Johnson, 7-6 (8), 6-4. In doubles, Arsic and Stewart were able to beat the Florida tandem of Kevin Edengren and Johnson by an 8-6 score. In addition, Sebastian Abboud tallied a sixth win for Texas Tech at the tournament when he overtook Auburn's Jake Kennedy, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Up next, the Red Raiders compete at the OSU Hidden Dual Tournament in Stillwater, Okla., on Oct. 11-13. Â
