New Mexico up next for Lady Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders continue play at home with a contest against the New Mexico Lobos on Tuesday, November 12 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech leads the all-time series with New Mexico with a 16-4 record. The two teams last played on November 28, 2021 with the Lady Raiders coming out on top by an 82-75 score.
Junior transfer Sarengbe Sanogo had a career night against Houston Christian last Thursday to help the Lady Raiders win, 63-40. Boasting a new career-high in seven different categories, Sanogo flourished in her second game as a Lady Raider after recording 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting, five rebounds, three blocks and an assist, all setting new career bests in the process. She also led the team in rebounds and blocks in that game.
Junior guard Jasmine Shavers had a 17-point perforÂmance against Houston Christian, leading the team in points that game and totaling her 40th double-figure scoring game of her career. Shavers currently leads the Lady Raiders in points per game with 15.0 on 48 percent shooting from the field.
It's just two games into the season and the Texas Tech Lady Raiders have looked solid defensively in both contests. Last game against Houston Christian, Tech forced 28 Huskie turnovers, held HCU to 33.3 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from the three, and added 10 steals and seven blocks. Currently, the Lady Raiders rank 29th nationally and second in the Big 12 with 6.0 blocks per game. They also rank 21st nationally and 3rd in conference with 27.0 turnovers forced per game.
In addition, Texas Tech is currently holding opponents to just 44.0 points per game, which sits at 23rd in the NCAA and third in the Big 12. In addition, blocking has been more prominent in the last two games as the Lady Raiders totaled 12 so far. Leading the team in blocks are both Sanogo and Jordyn Merritt with four apiece as well as four other players recording at least one.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The New Mexico Lobos are 1-1 heading into Tuesday's contest, with a close loss to Northern Arizona, 78-80, and a 10-point win against Morehead State, 66-56. New Mexico currently has three players averaging double-figure scoring in Viane Cumber (18.5), Destinee Hooks (13.5) and Alyssa Hargrove (11.5). Cumber also averages 10 rebounds per game for a double-double, followed by Hulda Joaquim with 8.5 rebounds per game. As a team, the Lobos are scoring 72 points per game while holding opponents to 68.0. They are shooting 40 percent from the field (52-for-130) and are totaling almost 50 rebounds per game.
