The Red Raiders will host an NCAA Tournament match for the second straight season and for the eighth time since 2012
LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second straight season and for the eighth time since 2012, postseason soccer returns to the John Walker Soccer Complex as Texas Tech earned a national seed Monday during the 2024 NCAA Soccer selection show.
Â
Checking as a No. 8 seed, Tech will play host to SEC foe LSU on Friday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex. First touch is set for 7 p.m. with the match set to air live on ESPN+.
Â
The Red Raiders earned the national seed after a successful regular season that featured a second-place finish in the Big 12 Conference and 14 wins (including the Big 12 Tournament). Tech also tied a program record for Big 12 wins (8) and advanced to the Semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons.
Â
Texas Tech and LSU are meeting for just the fourth time in school history. The Red Raiders are 1-2 all-time against LSU with the most recent meeting occurring back during the COVID-19 impacted 2021 season. In that match, Tech fell 1-0 to LSU in Denton.
Head Coach Tom Stone:Â
"We have been amazed by the sheer determination that this 2024 team has shown. We had lots of questions and adversity facing us early in the summer and fall, but this team found its footing in late August, and did not lose a game until the regular season finale. Many players have emerged as the future of this program and the senior leadership has been outstanding. So we celebrate today. We celebrate a great regular season, and we are thrilled that we get to play November soccer at home in the NCAA Tournament."
On the draw:
"Well we certainly will be challenged from the get go. A really difficult First Round opponent in LSU, and then the winner of our game, potentially gets Duke. It's that time of year. Nobody gets a free pass and the level of competition you get to face is part of the excitement and motivation to be in this situation."
