Brynn William's 14 kills led the match
LUBBOCK, Texas – Brynn Williams finished the match with 14 kills and seven digs while hitting .347 but it wasn't enough to overcome a dominant 3-0 victory for the Cyclones (10-14, 4-9).
The Red Raiders (13-13, 5-9) had three players combine for 34 of their 37 kills including Williams (14), Mia Wesley (10) and Emily Merrick (10).
Hanna Borer recorded her third double-double of the season as she posted 28 assists and 11 digs. Maddie Correa finished with nine digs and three assists while also picking up a kill.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cyclones owned set one. They hit .448 for the set and recorded four serving aces as they took a 1-0 lead after winning 25-14. The Red Raiders didn't hit bad (.296), but 16 kills by Iowa State proved too much.
Back-to-back-to-back Brynn Williams kills in set two made it a one-point game to force a Cyclones timeout at 17-18. Iowa State again hit well, finishing the set with a .308 hit percentage and had three aces. The Red Raiders out hit Iowa State with a .316 hit percentage, but service aces and errors went in favor of the Cyclones and made the difference late in the set.
Tech took its largest lead of the match in set three up 5-2 thanks to a pair of kills by Williams. Iowa State didn't panic, however, and quickly regained the lead at 12-10. The Cyclones steadily maintained a 4-5 point lead throughout the set to secure its sweep victory and spoil senior day.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will travel to Baylor and TCU next week for their final road matches of the season.
