Hanna Borer picks up her fourth double-double of the season
WACO, Texas – The Red Raiders (13-14, 5-10) were swept by No. 17 Baylor (19-7, 11-4) on Wednesday night in the Ferrell Center. Brynn Williams led the Red Raiders in kills with 13 as Hanna Borer picked up her fourth double-double of the season going for 26 assists and 11 digs.
Tech came out strong and was up 14-10 in the first set before the Bears were able to come back and tie the set at 20-20. Both teams had a lot taken out of them early as the first set finished with 56 combined points, and Baylor was able to feed off its comeback in the two sets that followed.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brynn Williams kept the Red Raiders in a close first set as she led the match with seven kills to open up the match. Emily Contreras added two service aces and Maddie Correa picked up a career-high two kills on some fortunate overpasses, but five service errors coupled with six Baylor blocks would ultimately make the difference as the Bears took a back-and-forth set 29-27.
Set two saw service errors plague both teams as they combined for 12 in the set and had 20 total. The Bears were able to limit Tech's offense to hitting just .089 in the set after the Red Raiders hit .225 the set before. Baylor hit well (.250) but its stingy defense allowed them to create long runs that worked out in their favor as they took the second set 25-18 to go up 2-0.
The Bears kept their foot on the gas in the third and ultimately final set, hitting .357 while limiting Tech to a .000 hitting percentage. Baylor's Elise McGhee led the match with 17 kills while hitting .349. Baylor took the set 25-18 to secure its 19th win of the season.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will make the short trip to Fort Worth to take on No. 22 TCU on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
