
Lady Raiders compete in Paradise Jam tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are set to compete in the Paradise Jam tournament on November 28-30 in the U.S. Virgin Islands as they will face RV Florida State, Gonzaga and Missouri State.
Playing at the University of Virgin Islands Arena, Tech and Florida State will meet for the third time in program history on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. CT. Tech and Florida State last met on December 19, 1994 with Tech winning 66-44. In addition, Texas Tech and Gonzaga are set to play for the first time in program history on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. CT. The Lady Raiders are currently leading the series with Missouri State, 2-0, last winning against the Lady Bears by a 67-59 score on March 23, 2003. These two teams will play on the final day of competition this Saturday, Nov. 30 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
Texas Tech is coming off a 6-0 homestand, as they most recently earned a victory against the New Orleans Privateers. In the game junior Bailey Maupin led the way with 20 points and led the team with four assists and four steals. Sophomore Jalynn Bristow is playing some of her best basÂketball over the past couple games. Last game against New Orleans, Bristow tied her career high in points with 17 after shooting 7-for-13 from the field. She also led the way with eight rebounds and four offensive boards, while adding an assist, two steals and a team-best two blocks. She recorded a career-best in field goals and also tied her career highs in blocks and rebounds.
The Lady Raiders currently average 6.8 blocks per game, which ranks fifth nationally and second in the Big 12. Junior Sarengbe Sanogo averages 3.17 blocks per game, leading the team in that category, while ranking eighth nationally and second in conference in blocks per game. She also ranks sixth in the nation and second in the Big 12 with 19 total blocks. From Nov. 12-19, she recorded three-straight games with 4-plus blocks, including a six-block night against Abilene Christian. The last time a Lady Raider posted four or more blocks three games in a row was Brittany Brewer from Feb. 18-26, 2020 when she had five, seven and five.
The Lady Raiders are only allowing opponents 53.0 points per game, ranking 29th in the country and third in the Big 12 in that category. Tech is also forcing 23.67 turnovers per game which ranks 29th in the NCAA and second in the conference. In addition, the Lady Raiders are holding teams to just 21.2 percent from beyond the arc, ranking atop the Big 12 and 13th nationally in that category.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Florida State Seminoles, who are receiving votes in the latest top-25 polls, are 5-1 on the season so far. The Noles picked up wins against North Florida, Florida A&M, Samford, North Carolina Central and Florida. FSU's one loss of the season was at Illinois on November 7 by a 74-83 score. As a team, the Seminoles are averaging 100.7 points per game and are holding teams to just 64.7 points. Florida State is shooting 44.6 percent from the field and is averaging 44.2 rebounds per game. Five Seminoles are averaging double-figure scoring on the season – Ta'Niya Latson (26.8), Makayla Timpson (20.2), O'Mariah Gordon (17.2), Sydney Bowles (10.7) and Carla Viegas (10.2). Timpson also leads the team with 12.7 rebounds per game, followed by Malea Williams with 7.2 boards per game.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are 4-2 on the season as they earned wins over Montana, Wyoming, Rice and at New Mexico. Their two losses were against Stanford and California. The Bulldogs are putting up 70.0 points per game and giving up 72.0 points per game. Shooting 44.2 percent from the field, the Bulldogs are totaling 38.7 rebounds per game as well as 14.0 assists per game. Gonzaga is led in scoring by Yvonne Ejim (19.5), Allie Turner (13.5) and Ines Bettencourt (10.8). Ejim is also averaging 10.8 rebounds per game for a double-double followed by Maud Huijbens with 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Missouri State Lady Bears are 3-1 on the season as they have defeated Tulsa, Wichita State and Saint Louis. Their one loss was against UT Martin by a 74-66 score. The Lady Bears are averaging 75.5 points per game and allowing opponents to 70.0 points per game. They are shooting 43 percent from the field and are totaling 40.5 rebounds per game. Missouri State is led in scoring by Kyrah Daniels (17.0), Lacy Stokes (14.0) and Sarah Linthacum (12.8). Linthacum leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game followed by Daniels with 5.3.
