Borer, Williams drop double-doubles in win over Houston

Red Raiders take down Houston 3-1
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders (14-15, 6-11) defeated Houston (11-16, 6-11) by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday night in the United Supermarkets Arena behind double-doubles from Brynn Williams and Hanna Borer. Emily Merrick also had a solid match, going for 12 kills while hitting .320 percent as Maddie Correa held down the back row with 17 digs.
Williams led the way offensively with 14 kills and had 14 digs to record her sixth double-double while Borer recorded 40 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double.
Aliyah McDonald finished the match with six kills and hit .455 percent. Mia Wesley recorded nine kills and nine digs to round out the major scorers for the Red Raiders.
Reagan Leinen and Correa both finished with two serving aces as the team combined for eight. Houston had five aces, but recorded 14 serving errors which proved to be the biggest difference in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tech and Houston traded blows all throughout the first set but the Red Raiders were able to get a nice lead with set point at 24-19. The Cougars made things interesting as they went on a 4-0 run, but Tech buckled down to get the final point and take the 1-0 lead.
The Red Raiders came out swinging in the second set and jumped out to a 10-3 before Houston knew what happened. Tech kept its foot on the gas and finished the set with a 25-17 win.
Set three was back-and-forth again before Houston went on a 4-0 run with the match tied 15-15 to take a nice lead late in the set. The Cougars were able to elongate the match with a 25-21 set win in the third.
Tech was able to bounce back after dropping the third set and went up 19-17 to force a Houston timeout. The Cougars got close, but were never able to take the lead as the Red Raiders won 25-21 to take the match and get their sixth conference win of the season.
