LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock has appointed former Red Raider outfielder Nolen Hester as the program's new Director of Baseball Operations.
Â
"Our staff is excited to bring back Nolen Hester in the role of Director of Baseball Operations," Tadlock said. "Upon finishing his MBA in Finance last year at Texas Tech last Fall, Nolen expressed an interest in getting involved in college baseball. His baseball background combine with his people skills should fit perfectly and allow him to impact our program."
Â
A native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Hester graduated from Rockwall-Heath before transferring to Texas Tech for his fifth and final season of eligibility from Wofford. During his lone season with the Scarlett and Black, Hester played and started in 60 games for the Red Raiders, helping lead Tech to a Regional Final appearance and 41 total victories.
Â
Hester hit .361 for the Red Raiders in 2023, recording 17 doubles and driving in 35 runs. Hester scored 56 runs, walked 61 times and struck out just 27 times all season. Hester finished the 2023 season with a .525 on-base percentage, as his 61 total walks were the third-most by a Red Raider in program history.Â
Â
A career .346 hitter and a veteran of nearly 220 games (218), Hester will begin his duties as the Red Raiders Director of Baseball Operations on Dec. 16. As part of his role Hester will help oversee the budget, team travel, summer camps and all other day-to-day operations.
Â
Texas Tech Baseball opens the 2025 season on Valentines Day (Feb. 14) when the Red Raiders head to 2024 College World Series participant North Carolina for a three-game set. First pitch from Chapel Hill is set for 5 p.m. (CT).
