Lady Raiders head to Alabama for doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will travel to Auburn, Ala., on Sunday, February 4, for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. The Lady Raiders (1-2) will begin play against No. 14 Auburn (2-1) at 11 a.m. before moving on to play Jacksonville State (2-2) at 6 p.m. later that day.
Texas Tech is coming off two losses during ITA Kickoff Weekend against No. 11 Virigina, 1-4, and No. 24 Wisconsin, 2-4. The Lady Raiders won the doubles point against the Cavaliers to strike first before falling in singles. Against the Badgers, No. 69 Cristina Tiglea defeated No. 67 Maria Sholokohova in straight sets and Jermine Sherif won her first dual singles match as a Lady Raider.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The No. 14 Auburn Tigers are coming off a 2-0 stretch at the Durham Regional for ITA Kickoff Weekend where they defeated Denver, 4-0, and then No. 15 Duke, 4-2, to qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships. The Tigers are led by a trio of top-125 players with No. 5 Carolyn Ansari, No. 31 DJ Bennett and No. 122 Selin Ovunc. Ansari and Bennett both went undefeated over the weekend while Ovunc won their lone point in a loss to No. 1 North Carolina, 1-6. The pair of Bennett and Ovunc are the No. 30 ranked doubles team in the country, while Ansari with Ariana Arseneault are ranked No. 51. The Lady Raiders are 2-4 all-time against the Tigers with the last matchup being a 3-4 loss in February last year.
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are heading to Auburn after a midweek match at UAB. The court three doubles pair of Dariana Prato and Irene Artigas lead the team in dual wins with a 3-1 record followed by Polina Ramenskaja and Serafima Shastova who sport a 2-1 record on court one. Zuzana Pavelekova holds the best dual singles record by going 2-0 on court six this season while three other players hold a 2-2 record on the year. This will be the first ever match between Texas Tech and Jacksonville State in women's tennis.
