Texas Tech set for Big 12 Indoor Championships

The Big 12 Championships this year includes four new teams in BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team is set to host the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championships for the second-straight year this Friday and Saturday at the Sports Performance Center.

Meet Coverage Â
The men's side will be looking for back-to-back indoor titles after winning last year's meet scoring 159 points – the third-most in Big 12 history. Meanwhile, the women's team will be searching for their first Big 12 title after finishing second the last three of five seasons. Overall, they've finished in second place five times (2009, 2010, 2019, 2020. 2022).

Rankings
Both Tech squads enter the meet as the top ranked Big 12 teams. The Tech men come in as the No. 2 team in the country after falling out of the No. 1 spot for the first time this season in Monday's week five rankings. The women stayed at No. 5 for a second-consecutive week.

Put It on Repeat
Three Red Raiders on this year's squad will be looking to repeat as champions in Caleb Dean (60m hurdles), Terrence Jones (60m) and Anne-Suzanna Fosther-Katta (triple jump). In 2023, Tech crowned seven individual champions with the other being Courtney Lindsey (200m), Chris Welch (triple jump), Zach Bradford (pole vault) and Demisha Roswell (60m hurdles).

On the Lookout
Dean and Jones currently lead the country in their respective events as the 60m crew holds three of the top-6 in the NCAA, while the hurdles squad boasts two in the top-7. The women's sprints group is also loaded as they enter the meet with three in the top-6 when it comes to the 60m led by Rosemary Chukwuma at 7.10.

Adeshina Temitope will be high jumping for the fourth time this season, the last time coming at the DeLoss Dodds Invite at K-State. She is second in the nation currently, trailing by one centimeter at 1.96m (6-5). In the horizontal jumps, Ruta Lasmane leads the country with a mark of 13.97m (45-10) – she did not compete during the indoor season in 2023. She won the triple jump in 2022.
