
Lady Raiders host UCF Saturday night

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at home this weekend as they host the UCF Knights for a game on Saturday, February 10 at 7 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. This will be just the third time in program history the two teams play one another as Tech leads the all-time series, 2-0, with their last game coming in 2007.
The Lady Raiders (16-8, 5-6 Big 12) are coming off a road loss to the No. 22-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers. In the contest, senior Jordyn Merritt recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Jasmine Shavers led the team in scoring with 16 points. In addition, freshman Loghan Johnson tied her career high in rebounds with seven and sophomore Kilah Freelon added nine points and five boards.
Currently, the Lady Raiders have three players who average double-figure scoring in Big 12 play - Shavers (14.3), Bailey Maupin (11.6) and Merritt (10.4). Both Merritt and Shavers are also averaging over five rebounds per game with 5.7 and 5.5, respectively. So far, Merritt and Maupin are the only two Lady Raiders to start in every conference game (11-11) and, in addition, Merritt leads with 16 blocks and Maupin leads with 36 assists in Big 12 games.
In addition, the Lady Raiders are holding opponents to 60.9 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from behind the arc. Individually, Shavers leads the Lady Raiders with 14.8 points per game followed by Maupin with 13.7 and Merritt with 8.6. Merritt and Freelon have a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game, while Shavers is just behind with 5.3.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The UCF Knights are 11-10 on the season and 2-9 in conference play. UCF has keys wins against Auburn (60-53), Houston (92-87) and Iowa State (71-66). Some losses have come against Cincinnati (61-67), West Virginia (43-84) and TCU (60-66). As a team, the Knights are averaging 65.8 points per game while holding opponents to just 63.4 points per game. They are shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line. The Knights are led in scoring by Kaitlin Peterson with 20.1 points per game and Mya Burns with 10.7. Peterson's 20.1 points per game is good for 21st in the NCAA and second in the Big 12. On the rebounding side, Achol Akot leads with 6.8 boards per game, followed by Khyala Ngodu with 5.7.
